I saw Les Claypool for the 4th time. It was the same saxophonist from the Frog Brigade, including special guests such as Ler and Herb. Unfortunately, although I love Primus, the show seemed to be steering more to a primus end of things.
We (Me Tim Sunny) were in the front row. There was a little moshing but it stopped after the first two songs.
It was a really great show, although he did not seem to play anything new.
I also like the use of the Theramin and Citar by "Gabi La-La?"
A little disappointed that so many primus assholes turned up. It was still fantastic though. I just miss the Frog Brigade dearly... If not join back with the Frog Brigade, he should at least write some new material, considering it is pretty much a new band. It's like he's in a cover band of his own music. On a similar note, when I went to see Trey Anastasio, he only played 1 (maybe two, not the biggest fish fan I am) Phish song and that was a good balance, you know, give the audience a little bit of the past, but without staying hung up in it.
Back to Claypool. Its almost his way of excercising his dominance over his bands (considering quite a few of the songs on the Holy Mackerel, which he seemed to feature the most out of any album) where recorded completely by him. Drums, Guitar, bass. The whole works. It seemed like he just told everyone exactly what he wanted them to do, aside from the solos. Even then, it seemed like he had full control over when he wanted to start and end their solo. I guess that's what a frontman has to do, but not to an extreme extent to which the other musicians seem oppressed.
So, actually played a pretty short set, about 2 hours long. But hey, he's Claypool, he can do what he wants.
There were three seperate incidents where people threw crap on the stage, including a paper machet mask. Claypool dismissed all of them, and didn't even seem to react to it. I guess he's gotten tired of lecturing.
Also, I had a really good time with Kate, Russell and Angie the other day.
