after the storm: kansas city

Hello from Kansas City! I left just in time too since we had that sketchy storm in STL on the night before I left. During the storm out power went out about 5 times but never for more that about a minute or so. I realize now how lucky we are to have power as all of Mr. P's family is without. Also our cable was still in tact so we could watch Project Runway.  Yay!

I had no idea how bad the storm was until I tried to leave town yesterday morning. My first stop was down the street to the coffee shop where the line was crazy long. People may not have power but they definitely need COFFEE. Then it took me about a half and hour to get to the interstate (a trip that usually takes less than 10 minutes). The lights were out on my usual route meaning crazy jacked-up traffic and there were tons of downed trees on my alternative route. Mr. P called me about 45 minutes after I left to tell me that the neighbors house almost caught on fire (they had a downed powerline that decided to disconnect or something). He also called me later to say that he had driven past my old apartment where there a tree had falled in the middle of the street and would have presumably falled on our cars if we still lived there. Both my parents called to make sure I was ok. Apparently we made national news? I did hear the mayor of STL on NPR asking for a state of emergency.

And to believe that I actually have complained in the past that STL doesn't get enough bad storms.

KC has been fun although tiring. It was so hot here yesterday and I didn't drink enough water so I got an unbelievably bad headache. I fell asleep at 9:00 p.m. When I woke up this morning, the temperature had dropped about 30 degrees overnight and I was freezing. What an awesome feeling. Now I am just waiting for mom to arrive and we will start enjoying our weekend. Watch out Kansas City!
