PIP AND ERZA AKA REDHEADS AHOY coyotealpha August 5 2010, 08:13:42 UTC
...well, here he was. Pip was initially somewhat reluctant to join this, but no thanks to some of the people on the ship and after some internal debate, he was here now out in the open (somewhat; he listed himself under his usual alias just to play safe) with his somewhat new plane in tow. Apache had been destroyed along with his base in the attack that claimed his men those months ago, so the man was forced to get a new plane - this one now ensured that it could hold two people. Sleek and powerful, Vidonifr (as Pip decided to name it) was one of the better models of this time and age ( ... )

Erza's face was set like stone, in a serious demeanour. She was dressed in a practical pilot's outfit, goggles in place over her eyes.

She looked more like she was about to charge off into battle than she did like she was about to go catch flowers.

"Always," she said.

There was a good pause as the man just kind of had to... stare at the other a little - from the outfit to the serious look on her face, it was really...

Doing his best not to look awkward, Pip let out a small sigh as he spoke. "Y'know, you don't have to be so serious. It's just a contest." Albeit one with (hopefully) a lot of prize money for grabs. It would really help their cause.

Erza pierced him with her gaze, and arched an eyebrow. "I don't follow," she said. "Of course it's just a contest. What's your point?"

Her stony gaze never faltered. She was just...extremely competitive.

Rikku and Kimi! tiny_tinker_toy August 5 2010, 21:04:56 UTC
This was going to be one of the coolest things ever. Not only was Rikku getting to fly with Kimi, she was doing it while it rained down flowers. Okay, that might be a little girly, but it was still awesome.

Awesome? Hm. Not so much for Watanuki. He couldn't help but remember what had happened the last time he'd flown in this plane. It made the scar on his arm twinge to remember the crash and the cold night he and Ichigo had spent waiting for rescue beside the twisted hulk of Zangetsu. And wait-- the time before that that he'd flown in this plane, he'd been unconscious and bleeding from a possibly-mortal chest wound! How had he forgotten that?! This plane was rife with bad luck for him!

And yet he was sitting in the passenger seat behind Rikku, a pair of flying goggles set firmly over his eyes, clutching a basket and trying with all his strength not to think about how high up Zangetsu would shortly be.

"You're sure about this?" he called to Rikku around the basket. If she gave up now, he could at least save face before he ran back to the safety of the ship...

"Positive!"

And with that, the signal was given and they were off. "Remember," she yelled over the roar of the engine. "Don't stand up! I don't wanna explain to people why I letcha fall out!"

"Fall out?! What?!" Watanuki clutched at the basket so hard his knuckles whitened, as though it could save him should he go tumbling out. "I'm not standing up!" he bellowed over the engine. "Are you INSANE?! Why would you even suggest--"

And then a gust of wind caught him in the face and he closed his mouth and concentrated on the flowers. The job was more difficult than it first appeared - the wind blew the blossoms around and lifted them out of the basket, and Watanuki's concentration was broken repeatedly by remembrance of the distance between him and the ground.

Hisagi and Rukia! (TEAM SHINIGAMI! xD /bricked) reapingwinds August 6 2010, 02:16:59 UTC
It was a split second decision, teaming up with Kuchiki. While he had talked to her through the network, he never really interacted consistently outside of said conversations. Stretching, cracked his back, waiting for his partner to arrive. Hopefully this was a good choice. While it would be his first time participating in something like this; how hard can it be? Keep his balance while Rukia flies the plane. Try to catch as many flowers as possible. Simple, right?

For one, he reminded himself to be on the lookout for flesh-eating flowers to pass along to Dimo, even if he was still somewhat hesitant to actually go after it actively. Better safe then sorry; it would be pretty embarrassing if he was taking out by a flower in the middle of the contest.

Rukia was pretty excited about the flower-catching. She'd never admit it aloud, but she loved the idea of being surrounded by a rain of flowers, up there in the sky... And getting to fly her plan through them while someone else focused on the business of catching--yeah, this sounded fun, better than last Hanami at least.

Speaking of her catcher... Rukia ran up to him, holding the goggles atop her head in place with a hand, and a broad smile plastered on her face. "Well, ready to go?"

He readjusted his fingerless gloves and pulled a battered pair of goggles in place over his eyes. Offering his partner a grin in response, Hisagi punched his right fist into his left palm at the same time. Rukia seemed excited and ready to go. There were planes already parked at the starting line, and surprisingly, Shuuhei felt an adrenaline rush he'd usually came to associate with releasing Kazeshini, which made no logical sense whatsoever. He shrugged off the feeling easily before turning to face his pilot fully.

"Hell, yeah. Other then win, got any tips for me before we take off?"

She looked him (up and) over, as if sizing him up--and then returned to her grin, apparently not finding him lacking, in height, if nothing else. "Strap in and try to hang on?" She offered before darting off to her beloved plane, clearly expecting him to follow. "Come on!"

Souji and Yukiko find_my_truth August 6 2010, 20:10:05 UTC
It was nice getting Horus out of the hanger again, and Souji was actually pretty excited. Last time he had flown was during that shark attack: this should be much more relaxed. Soaring through the sky, looping after flowers above an adoring town. It was kinda romantic: he wasn't ashamed to think that.

He had the engine going, waiting for Yukiko to arrive with the basket. Other then getting to fly again, it was great to see his friend again after almost a year.

She would never be late to a contest, but it took her a while to finally get Chie to settle down, maybe in the audience to watch her and Souji compete in the contest. This festival does make an interesting reunion.

With the basket in her hands, she quickly walked over to Souji's plane once she found it. She was excited and nervous at the same time, but happy to see her friend again, giving him a smile and a wave.

"Long time no see." He called out above the roar of the engine. It was easy to pick Yukiko out of the crowd even without the wave, what with the long black hair and tendency towards red. Ever since that day "staking out" Kanji in Inaba, he had looked forward to spending more time with her.

"Rode in many planes before?"

adorasion August 17 2010, 19:48:47 UTC
"I rode in some." And now she is flying the ship she is on, which might be surprising to some. She already helped herself in climbing on into the passenger seat behind Souji, getting herself buckled up and ready for this contest. No worries about her hair, that's what her headband is for.

"Have you been enjoying the festival so far?"

Nena and Sara aka Team VA pink_is_best August 8 2010, 10:58:16 UTC
She'd flown in races before, of course. Nothing big, just the occasional small one now and then during the months she and Sara had spent between ships. Had done quite well in them too, as was to be expected of someone who had been flying as long as she had. It was a quick and fairly easy way to make money, so why not? This kind of contest, however... well, it was definitely new. And it had sounded like fun, with a challenge that could only be described as 'unique'. A rare opportunity, Nena was all for trying it out! And Sara was joining her, which meant her fun would be doubled!

Nena readjusted her goggles and gloves, waiting patiently for the signal to take off. Small, sleek and dark maroon, her Liang wasn't flashy like some of the other planes, but it was quick and she knew it well. It also had two seats, making it perfect for the challenge ahead. She... she believed in it, if she was going to be perfectly honest.

No, not just in her plane. In her partner, and in herself as well. They could win this ( ... )

And so we make more voice actor jokes than Lucky*Star? dontkillmebro August 13 2010, 05:07:09 UTC
Nena's plane also had the advantage of not being quite as... distinctive as Sara's plane. While Ram-Dass was fast, it was also obnoxiously pink, and anyone could point it out as hers. And, if Nena was using a new alias, it was common sense for Sara to use a new one too.

"All right." The blonde nodded, looking around as quickly as she could. She'd left Emily in the ship because she'd otherwise be recognized as Sara Cruz, not Ayako Kawasumi, but she had enough confidence in Nena to win even without her.

Naturally pink_is_best August 23 2010, 09:04:15 UTC
…Oh wait, her fake name was Ayako, wasn’t it? This alias thing was harder than it looked. Nena hoped nobody had overheard her, which was luckily unlikely given the overwhelming noise in the surrounding area.

Okay, it looked like a lot of flowers were falling in an area a little east from their current position. Intending to head there, the pilot began to turn the plane.

“Have you got the basket ready?” It was probably best if she held off on using any names for the moment.

Sara nodded. "It's here." She held it out to the side. "Just fly into the heaviest concentration, and I'll get as many as I can."
