The dark, warm comfort of sleep was suddenly jerked away from Maxim as he was jostled from sleep. His first instinct was to use his pillow to beat his waker over the head. Then he registered Dimo's voice and, after cracking open an eye, realized that the sun hadn't risen yet and instinct quickly turned into action. His pillow walloped Dimo square in the face and Maxim continued snoozing, one arm draped over the edge of the bed having dropped the pillow. He muttered something that sounded more like a growl than anything else.

Dimo couldn't make out precisely what it was that Maxim had mumbled right after the purple Jager hit him. It might have been amusing to try and make it out, but for right now, Maxim had falled back to the bed in the perfect position for Dimo to drag him out of it. Shoving the pillow aside with his foot, Dimo grabbed Maxim by the hand and forearm and pulled hard.

"I zaid vake op! Ve gots zome monster hunting to do! I gots orders from Vinry for it und everyting."

Unlike Dimo, Maxim was NOT a morning person. If the jostling awake hadn't pissed him off, the getting pulled completely out of bed certainly did. He thrashed around in the blankets on the floor before finally untangling himself somewhat and crawling into a sitting position, hair wild and bleary eyes glaring up at Dimo.

"Orders? Vhy din't Hy get dese orders?" Finally he let out a loud sigh and attempted to crawl back into bed. "Iz too early. Vake me in an hour und den ve do dese... orders."

Avoiding Maxim's questions unless it became absolutely necessary to answer them, Dimo sat down on the edge of the bed, squarely in Maxim's way. On the one hand, he wanted it to be a surprise. On the other hand, he'd prefer not to have his nose broken right now. And there really had been reports of monsters that he'd decided to go and investigate. If they were really there, it would be nice to go and have some real fun, and keep the race site clear of rampaging creatures from the Badlands. If it was all just exaggeration, there were still plenty of normal animals to go and hunt, and they'd still have the time off to themselves.

"Iz better hunting if ve gets dere early enough to set up camp und plan it all out. I hears dot dese particular tings iz most active in late afternoon und early evening, und iz a bit of a trip out. Und bezides," he replied with a sly grin, "I gots a surprize for hyu vhat goes along vith de hunting. Can't tell hyu vhat it iz until ve gets dere, though."

Finding a body blocking his path back into bed, Maxim stood up to his full height, now livid that he wasn't being allowed to sleep longer. He scowled down at Dimo, silently fuming and deciding upon his next plan of action.

He really, REALLY wanted to go back to bed, damn the consequences. But he also had to consider the fact that Dimo was being oddly pushy about this. Perhaps there really was a good reason for it. And he was maybe a tiny bit curious as to what this surprise was.

Letting out a very long and loud sigh to show just how irritated he was, Maxim stumbled out of the blankets on the floor and began rounding up his clothes.

"Fine. Bot hyu owes me BEEG time. Und dot surprise better be a goot vun. Hy mean GOOT! Got it?" His tone was making it perfectly clear that he wasn't going to be in a friendly mood for a good, long while.

There was still a sneaking suspicion in the back of his mind that these weren't orders from Winry. That only made him grumpier.

"Absolutely!" Dimo replied in a tone that was entirely too chipper for this early in the morning. Oh, it would be good. Maxim could at least rest assured in that. Dimo had been planning this for a good week or so, and he was confident that he'd gotten most of the details right.

Heading over to the closet, Dimo reached in and smoothly pulled out his pack, all put together and ready to go. He remained silent, however. Teasing Maxim could sometimes be fun, but he was genuinely doing this out of affection, so he didn't want it to be too antagonistic. Instead, he set the pack down by the bed and waited for Maxim to get packed.

"I vill make certain iz goot, den," he replied. However, he couldn't resist adding, "Sir."

The added "sir" made Maxim quirk a brow, not necessarily at anyone in particular, possibly just to himself. He might have smirked just the tiniest bit. At least Dimo still knew who was in charge around here.

The early morning drowsiness caused Maxim to get dressed slower than usual but it still didn't take him long before he was pulling on his tall boots and glancing around for wherever he tossed his belt and sword last night.

After getting everything buckled on he stood by the door expectantly, scowl still adorning his face. He didn't expect to need to bring anything with him besides the clothes on his back and a weapon. Dimo was usually the prepared one with cooking utensils and such. Maxim didn't even expect to sleep anywhere other than on the ground.

Dimo was, indeed, prepared for this trip. Maxim would have to wait until they reached their destination to find out just how prepared, but even now, he'd probably noticed that the pack that Dimo hoisted onto his back was larger than the ones that he normally carried on such missions. There was, indeed, a Plan, and Dimo had no intention of sleeping on the hard, cold ground ( ... )

Maxim arched an eyebrow at the over-large pack but said nothing about it. Dimo had his plans and Maxim wasn't in a questioning mood anyway. He'd find out soon enough, he was sure. And he was indeed quiet as they walked, though his foul mood soon became more of a sleepy stupor.

It wasn't until Dimo pointed out their campsite that Maxim finally noticed the scenery. The creek was a convenient feature and Maxim gave Dimo a curious look. The closer they got the more his curiosity grew.

Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to ask. "Vot's so special about dot shpot?"

Their timing couldn't have been better. Dimo noticed that Maxim was looking even more ragged as they reached their destination. If Maxim decided to take a nap, it would give him time to set up the rest of the camp and his surprise. Behind the sometimes gruff exterior, Dimo honestly was a romantic at heart, and it was nice to be able to show it off ( ... )

At the suggestion of a nap Maxim's whole body seemed to sigh in relief and he nodded drowsily, immediately in search of a comfy patch of ground. Pulling off his coat, he balled it up and propped it under his head as he settled down in the shade of a large tree.

Momentarily lifting his head, he furrowed his brows at Dimo who'd offered to set up camp. "Hyu certainly iz eager to do all de vork." He wasn't complaining, no. He just found it a little suspicious. Still, supposedly Dimo had a plan so it was best if he just slept and let his companion do whatever it was he needed to do.

"Vhat, I can't be de nize guy vonce in a vhile?" Dimo asked with an easy grin in response to the suspicious look that Maxim gave him. Maxim was right to be think that something was up, of course. Hopefully, though, this would be something that they could both enjoy ( ... )

It was a restless sleep. His sensitive ears had picked up every little noise and occasionally it had roused him from slumber just enough to roll over and close his eyes again. Now there was a different sound and he awoke with a bit of a start. He furrowed his brows and sat up, glancing around at his surroundings and quickly realizing that Dimo must be playing his violin somewhere nearby.

Standing slowly and leaving his coat on the ground he stepped around the tree and found the source of the music. Finally things started to click when Maxim observed Dimo dressed the way he was and the tent pitched off to the side. Well, this was certainly not what he was expecting.

Slowly approaching Dimo, he stopped just a few feet short and smirked down at him. "Zo. Vot iz all dis?" He had some idea but he still felt he needed an explanation from the mastermind.

The bow stopped in its flight across the strings of the violin as Maxim approached Dimo. By the look on Maxim's face, it seemed as though he were starting to figure out just what this was all about, but if he wanted an explanation, Dimo was more than happy to give him one.

Gazing back up at his partner, an amused smile on his lips, Dimo replied, "Iz for hyu und me, of courze." Setting the violin down in its case, he gestured to the camp setup with his left hand, pushing himself up into a standing position with his right. "De exact date didn't schtick in my head, but unless I iz wrong, dis iz de time of year vhen ve had zome fon togedder for de forst time. Tings haz been buzy of late, und ve could both uze a break. Ve gots three days out here, und I thought it vould be nize to come to a place vhat reminded me of dot forst time. Ve gots all dis to ourselves, zome goot vine und ale, soft bedding, und each odder. As for dot," he nodded to the violin, "Thought hyu might like zome accompaniment vun of dese days ( ... )

All this was making Maxim shy and he knew his face had reddened just a bit. He really, really did like this affection thing, but it always turned him into a blushing, fidgeting mess, and he often didn't know how to respond.

Smiling bashfully, Maxim's gaze flickered to the ground as he leaned in to Dimo's touch. "Anniversary? So... dis vould be our sex anniversary? Our sex-iversary?" He laughed a bit at his own joke, trying to ease his tensity.

Vaguely, Maxim realized after Dimo had mentioned accompaniment that he had in fact been playing the very song that Maxim sung that day when Wolfina recorded him for the entire network to hear. How in the world had Dimo recognized it? He'd have to inquire later.

The blushing only encouraged Dimo, who grinned pointily back at Maxim and brought his hand down to rest on the side of his neck. "Dot vorks," he agreed in an amiable tone. Dimo slid his other arm around Maxim's slim waist, his fingers wrapping tenderly around the slight curve of his hip. He was slowly getting braver about doing these sorts of things when there were other people about, but out here in the wilderness, where it was just the two of them, he felt far freer to do as he liked.

He bent his neck so that his face was close to Maxim's, his lips barely brushing the skin of his lover's cheek in a soft kiss. There was something that he'd been meaning to ask for a while now, and he might as well do it now that he'd worked up the courage to do so without feeling entirely foolish. "Dere iz vun ting," Dimo murmured, his own face burning more than a little now, "dot I vants to do vith hyu dot I doezn't tink ve's ever done before."
