There was a lively bounce to each of her step. Click, click, click. Shion found that she rather liked the sound. With each impact between her heels and the floor, she could feel a tiny shiver of delight course through her body, leaving her spine taut and rigid. It was such a trivial noise, but she enjoyed it. For some reason, it felt like a comfort, amidst all the chaos unfolding around her. It resembled the agonized roars of an enraged animal, its claws and fangs sinking into every room, every hallway, every floor ( ... )

With a spare shirt from his laundry pile pulled over his nose, Near grabbed his journal before making his way to the door. The fear gas was spreading through the building and there was no telling when it would reach his cabin. Captain's orders, were to head for the deck. Those orders, made perfect sense, considering the fear gas' effects on people.

They made even more sense after Near heard the numerous public posts made by several of the crew members.

Walking down the corridor with his journal in one hand and a shirt in the other, the boy looked around cautiously before making any turns. Climbing up a flight of stairs quickly, Near heard footsteps from his right. Turning around, he was not sure if he ought to feel relieved or relatively frightened at the person he had come across.

"Mion," he began cautiously, remembering she was one of those affected by the fear gas.

The captain had told him to go up on deck, and while he had agreed to it, it didn't seem like such a good idea to remain loafing around uselessly while the members of the crew were damaging the ship even more than it already, what with the last time it got attacked.

His journal tucked carefully into a bag slung over a shoulder and set on loud (in case someone needed the pilots after all), he ran around with a wet cloth tied over his nose and mouth, shoving over portholes and whatever openings he could find along the hallways. Abe went about this task single-mindedly until he came upon Sonozaki and... their strategist, was it? in a hallway by the captain's quarters.

"What're you guys doing?" he asked, adjusting the cloth over his face.

It was just as she was crossing the intersection, just as she was to pass the stairway, when she caught sight of a familiar head of white. Slowing to a halt in front of him, watching as he shifted to face her, Shion could hear him speak her name. No, no, her name. Did he know? Could he really? Yet, did it even matter? She could always refute whatever 'slander' he spouted. However, that wasn't quite the relevant matter at the moment. Why was he there? Well, regardless of the reason, it was always better safe than sorry, and chances were, he wasn't there for pleasantries ( ... )

Near's shoulders instinctively stiffened when Mion suddenly wrapped her arm around them, unused to this kind of physical contact. The appearance of the pilot only served to make her even more wary. The sooner Mion was brought out to the deck, the better.

Wiggling to loosen her grip on him, Near replied ,"We were merely discussing on how it would be much better if we both went up onto the deck, as ordered."

Near could only hope that Abe would get the message that he would prefer to be away from Mion, at this point in time. Mion may attack or harm the both of them under the influence of the fear gas, and if anything, Near was in no position to subdue her.

"Oh, talking," he echoed dubiously. Eyeing the way Sonozaki was touching Near. That wasn't... natural. Usually, danger would just go over his head and he'd be completely oblivious to messes happening around him, but with the fear gas roaming around, he was inclined to think that everyone but him was affected.

Near had a mask on. Sonozaki did not. It was easy to understand what was going on here, then. Not letting on that he knew something was up, though, Abe only stepped back three steps to a nearby porthole and opened it up. "I was just opening the windows. It gets stuffy here, and the captain might be hot."

He did not have any particular destination in mind-- all Sebastian had in mind was to sweep each deck of the ship swiftly, either administering the antidote or taking out (temporarily, of course) those who were affected by the gas. The first few he'd encountered were seamen, and were easily knocked out with a blow to the back of their neck.

He did not expect, however, that all the others he encountered would be as easy to apprehend. Mion, he would soon discover, would be one of people. He noticed them from the corner of his eye as he stopped at the end of the hallway, starting to make his way over.

"Everyone, please take the Captain's advice and move above decks."

Shion wasn't sure if she had heard correctly, but was that incredulity lining Abe's tone of voice? The two were up to something. Definitely up to something. Whatever that was, it probably wasn't good. As for opening the windows, did he really care about what the captain wanted? Was Yuri even feeling hot? He did say he 'might be.' There had to be an ulterior motive then ( ... )

Near tumbled as Mion suddenly released her grasp on him. He barely had time to react before Mion grabbed the shirt he held over his face, gasping softly as he briefly lost the grip he had on the shirt.

Falling on his side on the floor with one hand still barely grasping onto one sleeve of the shirt which Mion now held, Near felt an unfamiliar and unpleasant sensation sink into his gut. Was it panic, or just fear? Using his hand as a temporary (but rather ineffective) mask, Near noticed the look Mion had in her eyes and how they flickered towards the dark haired mechanic, as she spoke to Sebastian.

Stubbornly holding on to the sleeve, Near called out to no one in particular,"Watch out!"

Everything happened so fast Abe barely had time to react -- and really, he barely managed to do anything before he was caught. Sonozaki had whipped what had been Near's mask at him and pretty much dragged him close the same time Near hit the floor.

"What are you doing?!" he demanded through his own mask even as he stared in askance at Near. He struggled, but thought better of it and eyed Sebastian instead, giving him a look that said very clearly to goddamn do something already!

The fear gas had an interesting affect on Ms. Mion, Sebastian noted. Her paranoia had manifested in a different way from the others-- a touch of maliciousness radiated off of her that was not characteristic of her ( ... )

Although Shion's eyes remained on Sebastian in a nearly uninterested manner, she kept her body alert, her attention still partly fixated to Abe and Near. Yet, as the the dark-haired man finished his bow, the words that slipped from his tongue slid hard against her ears. Her heart gave a resounding thud against her chest, as any traces of playfulness suddenly vanished, giving way to a cold smirk that didn't quite reach her eyes. Was it truly the Captain that gave the order? For all she knew, he was merely trying to coax them onto the above decks. Then again, what if that meant Sebastian had already seen Yuri? Actually, it didn't matter whether or not he had seen the captain. More importantly, did he harm Yuri ( ... )

Near felt Mion inch closer towards him. In any case, it appeared that Abe was not in any position to help make the situation any better. The only person who would be able to subdue Mion at this point in time would be the cook. And if Near's hunches about him were correct, this cook is far more deadly than the refined butler that he was supposed to be ( ... )

He could feel the shirt tightening around his neck. For a fairly small lady, Sonozaki certainly had a grip. If Abe wasn't used to flying in high altitudes, he could have have more trouble breathing.

The banter between Sonozaki and Sebastian was starting to freak him out a little. It didn't help that Near was down on the ground and Sonozaki pushing him slowly to him. The pilot obviously did not want to step on his new found friend, though...

Kick her! he wanted to say, but of course couldn't. He eyed Near encouragingly. Abe could take a fall with her weight on him. And if he was aware of the plan, it wouldn't shock him anymore. That taser would be far worse, at any rate.... Anything to give Sebastian an opening!

She was a stubborn one. Sebastian almost pitied the Captain for needing to deal with her tenacity-- and this was what was below the surface, as well. It did not seem that she would relent. "I will not worry then, Ms. Mion, since you are so insistent that I do not. I simply felt it was necessary to inform you." Seeing as trying to use the Captain's influence on her did not work, he would have to resort to other measures. He did not want to linger here. He'd have to get a little rough with her now ( ... )

As Sebastian began to move closer, Shion could feel her shoulders stiffen, as her eyes gained a darker edge. It was strange to think of Jabu being lax in his duties, especially when he was always telling her that he and the captain had a "professional" relationship. If anything, he had a problem with speaking on a personal level to Yuri. However, she still didn't know the exact workings of Jabu's involvement as a first mate. Yet, how could she tell whether or not Sebastian was lying? Although, it sounded like he indeed went to speak with the captain, but discerning if he harmed Yuri was difficult ( ... )
