There was a lively bounce to each of her step. Click, click, click. Shion found that she rather liked the sound. With each impact between her heels and the floor, she could feel a tiny shiver of delight course through her body, leaving her spine taut and rigid. It was such a trivial noise, but she enjoyed it. For some reason, it felt like a comfort, amidst all the chaos unfolding around her. It resembled the agonized roars of an enraged animal, its claws and fangs sinking into every room, every hallway, every floor.

In spite of it all, Shion ambled through the ship at a leisure pace, her favorite taser idolently dangling from her fingers. Although her movement seemed aimless, anyone could tell that she appeared to be keeping near the hallway close to the captain's quarters.

Her darling beloved, her beloved crush - he was in danger. That was a fact she knew, oh so well. However, as long as she was there, she would protect him. She wouldn't let harm come to him. Never. She'd destroy anyone trying otherwise. Yet, it was strange, the sensation it sent crawling underneath her skin. Like the cold press of metal, driving into her chest, through her ribs, through her heart.

However, no one had to know about that frigid feeling. No one at all. As far as anyone was aware of, she was absolutely fine. Just peachy. Just copacetic. She wouldn't harm a single fly - for she wasn't just the spider, she was also the web. She'd spin a trap, enveloping the insect, and then crush it, devouring it until there wasn't anything left of its grimy, grotesque body.

It was uncanny, how that calm strain of thought managed to line her frenzied thoughts. It was relieving, if anything. So very relieving. Now all that was left, was to take care of the obstacles that came her way.

With a spare shirt from his laundry pile pulled over his nose, Near grabbed his journal before making his way to the door. The fear gas was spreading through the building and there was no telling when it would reach his cabin. Captain's orders, were to head for the deck. Those orders, made perfect sense, considering the fear gas' effects on people.

They made even more sense after Near heard the numerous public posts made by several of the crew members.

Walking down the corridor with his journal in one hand and a shirt in the other, the boy looked around cautiously before making any turns. Climbing up a flight of stairs quickly, Near heard footsteps from his right. Turning around, he was not sure if he ought to feel relieved or relatively frightened at the person he had come across.

"Mion," he began cautiously, remembering she was one of those affected by the fear gas.

The captain had told him to go up on deck, and while he had agreed to it, it didn't seem like such a good idea to remain loafing around uselessly while the members of the crew were damaging the ship even more than it already, what with the last time it got attacked.

His journal tucked carefully into a bag slung over a shoulder and set on loud (in case someone needed the pilots after all), he ran around with a wet cloth tied over his nose and mouth, shoving over portholes and whatever openings he could find along the hallways. Abe went about this task single-mindedly until he came upon Sonozaki and... their strategist, was it? in a hallway by the captain's quarters.

"What're you guys doing?" he asked, adjusting the cloth over his face.

It was just as she was crossing the intersection, just as she was to pass the stairway, when she caught sight of a familiar head of white. Slowing to a halt in front of him, watching as he shifted to face her, Shion could hear him speak her name. No, no, her name. Did he know? Could he really? Yet, did it even matter? She could always refute whatever 'slander' he spouted. However, that wasn't quite the relevant matter at the moment. Why was he there? Well, regardless of the reason, it was always better safe than sorry, and chances were, he wasn't there for pleasantries.

Letting a warm smile spread across her lips, Shion let out a small giggle, one hand briefly coming to hover over her mouth as if to repress it. "Hello, Near," she greeted, a playful octave in her tone of voice. "You speak as if there's something wrong." A frown briefly fell across her face, as her eyes swiftly trailed from his face to the shirt pulled over his nose. "Ah, I see, there's -"

She didn't have a chance to finish her sentence, for it was then she heard another voice speak from close by. Shifting, she found Abe within her line of vision. He also had a piece of fabric over his face. What was this? Some sort of conspiracy? A plan? They even had the matching uniforms, as humorous as that sounded. However, it was no laughing matter, that was for certain. She'd deal with them as quickly and subtly as possible.

Quickly taking a step over to Near, nearly as if gliding over to his side, Shion swiftly extended her free arm to wrap it around the boy's shoulders, intending to bring him closer to her. "What does it look like?" she innocuously chuckled. "We're talking, silly. You have absolutely nothing to worry about!" She wasn't certain upon Abe's next course of action, but if he meant to proceed onward, coming into a close enough range, that would work. Otherwise, if he turned away, she could always give chase. Assuming he didn't mean to attack with that bag of his. In that case, she had another plan in mind for that scenario.

Near's shoulders instinctively stiffened when Mion suddenly wrapped her arm around them, unused to this kind of physical contact. The appearance of the pilot only served to make her even more wary. The sooner Mion was brought out to the deck, the better.

Wiggling to loosen her grip on him, Near replied ,"We were merely discussing on how it would be much better if we both went up onto the deck, as ordered."

Near could only hope that Abe would get the message that he would prefer to be away from Mion, at this point in time. Mion may attack or harm the both of them under the influence of the fear gas, and if anything, Near was in no position to subdue her.

"Oh, talking," he echoed dubiously. Eyeing the way Sonozaki was touching Near. That wasn't... natural. Usually, danger would just go over his head and he'd be completely oblivious to messes happening around him, but with the fear gas roaming around, he was inclined to think that everyone but him was affected.

Near had a mask on. Sonozaki did not. It was easy to understand what was going on here, then. Not letting on that he knew something was up, though, Abe only stepped back three steps to a nearby porthole and opened it up. "I was just opening the windows. It gets stuffy here, and the captain might be hot."

He did not have any particular destination in mind-- all Sebastian had in mind was to sweep each deck of the ship swiftly, either administering the antidote or taking out (temporarily, of course) those who were affected by the gas. The first few he'd encountered were seamen, and were easily knocked out with a blow to the back of their neck.

He did not expect, however, that all the others he encountered would be as easy to apprehend. Mion, he would soon discover, would be one of people. He noticed them from the corner of his eye as he stopped at the end of the hallway, starting to make his way over.

"Everyone, please take the Captain's advice and move above decks."

Shion wasn't sure if she had heard correctly, but was that incredulity lining Abe's tone of voice? The two were up to something. Definitely up to something. Whatever that was, it probably wasn't good. As for opening the windows, did he really care about what the captain wanted? Was Yuri even feeling hot? He did say he 'might be.' There had to be an ulterior motive then.

"Oh, of course, of course!" It was probably prudent to play along, regardless of her suspicions. "I would hate for the captain to overheat or anything!" Her voice was light-hearted, with a hint of a giggle permeating it.

Noting the way Near struggled to wiggle out of her grip, Shion abruptly released him, but at the same time, one hand extended in a fluid manner, seizing the shirt wrapped around his nose and giving it a tight tug, intending to pull it off him. Hopefully, her sudden movement and the initial surprise of physical contact would be enough to catch him off guard. If she was able to pull the cloth away from the white-haired boy, she'd whip it forward with both hands, to bring it around Abe's neck and jerk him closer to her. Otherwise, she'd simply wrap her arms around Near again, in a much tighter embrace.

At the familiar sound of a voice - clearly recognizing the word 'Captain' - she stiffened, glancing in the direction of it out of the corner of her eye. Sebastian. Was he in on it too? If so, she was prepared for some quick movement.

"Sure, but why does the Captain want us to move to the above decks?" This was stated sweetly, along with a slight tilt of her head. Whether it was Abe or Near she was currently focusing on, she'd tighten her grasp by a fraction, moving even closer to him.

Near tumbled as Mion suddenly released her grasp on him. He barely had time to react before Mion grabbed the shirt he held over his face, gasping softly as he briefly lost the grip he had on the shirt.

Falling on his side on the floor with one hand still barely grasping onto one sleeve of the shirt which Mion now held, Near felt an unfamiliar and unpleasant sensation sink into his gut. Was it panic, or just fear? Using his hand as a temporary (but rather ineffective) mask, Near noticed the look Mion had in her eyes and how they flickered towards the dark haired mechanic, as she spoke to Sebastian.

Stubbornly holding on to the sleeve, Near called out to no one in particular,"Watch out!"

Everything happened so fast Abe barely had time to react -- and really, he barely managed to do anything before he was caught. Sonozaki had whipped what had been Near's mask at him and pretty much dragged him close the same time Near hit the floor.

"What are you doing?!" he demanded through his own mask even as he stared in askance at Near. He struggled, but thought better of it and eyed Sebastian instead, giving him a look that said very clearly to goddamn do something already!

YOU'RE TAKING YOUR MEDICINE FIRST D8< demonic_romeo June 12 2009, 06:09:48 UTC
The fear gas had an interesting affect on Ms. Mion, Sebastian noted. Her paranoia had manifested in a different way from the others-- a touch of maliciousness radiated off of her that was not characteristic of her.

Well. Not often.

Sebastian arched an eyebrow when Mion took Abe into her grasp swiftly and suddenly, the corner of his lips twitching in amusement as he caught the pilot's disgruntled look. She was quite the lethal young lady, though she didn't look it. He would have to be more delicate with her in order to free the two boys-- he couldn't very well bruise her pretty skin with a blow to the neck, now could he? The butler could feel the weight of the case of syringes in his coat pocket, its form pressing against his hand as he slid into his familiar bow.

Her speed was no match for his. He would be able to give her the antidote before she even realized it. But he had to coax her into stepping closer. She was too wary of him at the moment, and would probably keep a good distance between them. And what was any better way to provoke her to attack him than to question her loyalty to the one she obviously worshiped? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, after all.

"Ms. Mion, I have never known you to question the Captain when he requests something of his crew members." His lips curled up in the slightest sneer. "Are you turning your back on him?"

Although Shion's eyes remained on Sebastian in a nearly uninterested manner, she kept her body alert, her attention still partly fixated to Abe and Near. Yet, as the the dark-haired man finished his bow, the words that slipped from his tongue slid hard against her ears. Her heart gave a resounding thud against her chest, as any traces of playfulness suddenly vanished, giving way to a cold smirk that didn't quite reach her eyes. Was it truly the Captain that gave the order? For all she knew, he was merely trying to coax them onto the above decks. Then again, what if that meant Sebastian had already seen Yuri? Actually, it didn't matter whether or not he had seen the captain. More importantly, did he harm Yuri?

She didn't spot any blood on him, but who said that he had to slice through Yuri with a knife? He could have a number of things hidden on him - or he could've even changed his clothes. However, that didn't matter. Even being lured out onto the deck didn't matter. All she needed to figure out was whether or not he had hurt Yuri - or bore the intentions to do so.

"What? Can't ask a simple question?" she remarked, almost scornfully, before she assumed a flippantly cheerful smile, accompanied by another giggle. "Don't you worry, don't you worry, don't. You. Worry, Sebastian! I'll be heading to the decks in a minute." Noting the way Near insisted upon clinging to the sleeve, and then Abe's expression, she let her mind process her next course of action as she continued speaking. "But tell me something first...when you went to see the Captain, did he tell you what he wants us to do once we're on the decks?" She presented this question in a surprisingly calm voice, without even a hint of amusement. In any other situation that didn't involving her hands still pulling a shirt around Abe's neck, one could've mistaken Shion to have been her regular self again.

Yet, as she had made this inquiry, she inched the slightest bit closer to Near, subtly trying to shift him closer to Abe's legs. At the same time, she let her left hand hold both ends of the shirt she had wrapped around the boy's neck, allowing her right to have a firmer grip on her taser.

Near felt Mion inch closer towards him. In any case, it appeared that Abe was not in any position to help make the situation any better. The only person who would be able to subdue Mion at this point in time would be the cook. And if Near's hunches about him were correct, this cook is far more deadly than the refined butler that he was supposed to be.

He could not predict what Mion would do after this. Predicting moves in a game or an investigation was one thing, but when it came to a very real and physical situation, Near would have cursed his helplessness had he been just a little less controlled of his emotions. Looking around, saw that Mion's legs were left unguarded and he was lying slumped right next to them. If he tried to trip Mion, there was no telling what would happen to the teen she held captive at this point in time, considering she held him by the neck. Perhaps, a more diplomatic course of action was needed.

"Mion, I am certain that the captain only means the best for us," Near said, his voice muffled by his hand that was not gripping onto the sleeve like his life depended on it.

He could feel the shirt tightening around his neck. For a fairly small lady, Sonozaki certainly had a grip. If Abe wasn't used to flying in high altitudes, he could have have more trouble breathing.

The banter between Sonozaki and Sebastian was starting to freak him out a little. It didn't help that Near was down on the ground and Sonozaki pushing him slowly to him. The pilot obviously did not want to step on his new found friend, though...

Kick her! he wanted to say, but of course couldn't. He eyed Near encouragingly. Abe could take a fall with her weight on him. And if he was aware of the plan, it wouldn't shock him anymore. That taser would be far worse, at any rate.... Anything to give Sebastian an opening!

MEDICINEEEEE demonic_romeo June 15 2009, 05:43:41 UTC
She was a stubborn one. Sebastian almost pitied the Captain for needing to deal with her tenacity-- and this was what was below the surface, as well. It did not seem that she would relent. "I will not worry then, Ms. Mion, since you are so insistent that I do not. I simply felt it was necessary to inform you." Seeing as trying to use the Captain's influence on her did not work, he would have to resort to other measures. He did not want to linger here. He'd have to get a little rough with her now.

But he was sure she could take it. Maybe.

The butler started advancing towards Mion. Abe and Near, as far as he could see, were still fine-- while she had Abe in a neck hold, she still did not look like she had any intention of hurting him. Yet. All Sebastian needed was a moment's worth of distraction.

And Near seemed to have the perfect opportunity to provide it.

He glanced over both boys, shifting his expression to look concerned, but when his gaze landed on the snow-haired boy on the ground, Sebastian arched his eyebrows before turning back to Mion. Near was an intelligent boy-- hopefully that would be enough of a prompt for him to do what Sebastian wanted.

"He wants to announce the possibility of new officers being appointed. You know how First Mate Jabu has been...lax in his duties..." Which was not true in the least; Sebastian had a feeling the first mate was one of the few that the Captain trusted immensely. He bowed again to her, hand over his chest. Half a second would have the case of syringes open, the other half would have the syringe in his hand. Another second to step forward, then two to administer it to her. Four seconds was all he needed.

Now all that was left was to wait to see if Near could come through his sake and Abe's.

NOOO, KEEP THAT AWAY FROM MEEE. ribbonyidentity June 16 2009, 07:26:22 UTC
As Sebastian began to move closer, Shion could feel her shoulders stiffen, as her eyes gained a darker edge. It was strange to think of Jabu being lax in his duties, especially when he was always telling her that he and the captain had a "professional" relationship. If anything, he had a problem with speaking on a personal level to Yuri. However, she still didn't know the exact workings of Jabu's involvement as a first mate. Yet, how could she tell whether or not Sebastian was lying? Although, it sounded like he indeed went to speak with the captain, but discerning if he harmed Yuri was difficult.

In all honesty, she was tired of playing these games. Tired of masking her rising fears with smiles and giggles. She simply wanted to end the charade and finish removing the obstacles obstructing Yuri's safety. Yet, even if she couldn't entirely drop her playfulness, it was time to start being the slightest bit more serious.

"I see." This was stated curtly, a colder expression beginning to form upon her face, evidenced through the hardening of her eyes and the tight line of her lips. Whether it was in response to Near's or Sebastian's words, or even both, it wasn't clear, but she could care less.

Abruptly releasing the ends of Near's shirt, Shion used the same hand to seize the one serving as Abe's mask. Digging her nails into the fabric, she bent slightly from the waist, jerking both the boy and the shirt downwards, until the cloth could touch the side of Near's face. As quick as the flicker of firelight, she brought her taser hovering only a centimeter away from the strip of cloth framing Abe's neck. Electricity crackled from the end of her weapon, a clear sign on what would happen if anyone shifted her position. Her fingers only needed a single push, and not only would Abe be eletrocuted, but Near as well. It was most fortunate that Abe had drenched his mask, as water conducted electricity quite well, she found.

"Can you tell me something, Sebastian?" she inquired, her voice gaining a saccharine touch, as the slightest hint of a smile began to spread across her lips. "When you went to see the Captain...was he injured? Harmed in any way?" Her head tilted back by a fraction, a gentle movement in stark contrast to the tight grip she held on the taser and the wet cloth.
