Characters: Ffamran and Giselle Content: Date the Second! (also tea) Setting: Melior Time: Backdated to before the Way and Victoria left Warnings: SAP!
Giselle had not actually remembered that Ffamran had asked her out again. It had been a while since they'd spoken -- and what with all the usual play-related chaos going on, and Kurt's announcement, well...who could really blame her?
She still couldn't believe it. Kurt was the captain -- as much as she loved Vash, and was absolutely certain that he would do a wonderful job no matter what anyone else said...she didn't think she'd ever be able to really and truly think of someone else as the captain. It just didn't fit properly into her mind --
She was on the deck when Ffamran arrived, so she saw him before he actually reached the ship. At first she thought she was dreaming -- or maybe the tea leaves she'd used this morning had been just a teensy bit not as fresh as she'd thought -- but then she remembered that oh, yes, the military ship was also in town, wasn't it? And Ffamran had offered --
Oh dear. She wasn't even dressed properly, still in her flour-stained apron and with her hair all mussed up and goodness, she hadn't even taken
( ... )
Ffamran looked up and saw that Giselle wasn't actually dressed for a date so much as work which was actually a bit disappointing, but she seemed to be off to change or powder her nose or whatever it was Giselle did to get ready for a date.
"I do," he called back up.
With that he made his way up the gangplank and back to Giselle's room. He hadn't actually thought to bring flowers, perhaps he should have, but he didn't think it would be too much of a problem. Giselle seemed happy to see him regardless.
Giselle was moving at hyper-Giselle-speed. She barely even had time for a pre-date song -- she sang the opening bars as she ran down the stairs, trying to think of the words as she went. Goodness, she was all in a fluster today, wasn't she? Couldn't even remember the words for a proper getting-dressed refrain. She kept wanting to rhyme orange with doorhinge, and there was nothing romantic about doorhinges at all!
The mice followed her as she went, and it was only from years of practice that she didn't crush them beneath her little feet as she skipped along. (Giselle did not really run. She just frolicked at a faster pace than usual.) A group of them helped her out of her apron; one of them adjusted her hem as she reached her room and began rummaging around. Another mouse caught her hat as she flung it wildly off her head.
"Oh where is my hairbrush?" she sang, digging through stacks of music sheets and old scripts and good heavens, when had her room gotten so messy? (Giselle was one of those people who cleans everything obsessively,
( ... )
She hadn't changed much, it seemed, but she still looked quite adorable.
"Quite well, actually." It wasn't a complete lie, after all, he'd gotten a promotion - or he was going to - and they were going to be leaving Melior shortly. "I have all sorts of news that just doesn't seem the type of thing to send over the journals."
He took her hand and leaned to give her wrist a very soft kiss.
"You are looking positively radiant today. I hope you are prepared to enjoy the best tea in Melior."
Giselle giggled. She liked Ffamran -- he made her feel all tickly, in a way that she'd never really felt before. And he was so very sweet! Who couldn't adore a man who would kiss her wrist?
Nobody else had ever kissed her hand before. (Except once in a play, but that didn't really count. Especially because he'd washed his mouth out afterwards and declared that girls had cooties.) Nobody else had really treated her quite like Ffamran did, for that matter, and she was enjoying it.
"Thank you," she beamed. "You look absolutely dashing! Do excuse me if I swoon." She felt like she almost might; the adrenaline from her run had set her heart pumping, and Ffamran being aggressively charming wasn't exactly stopping it. She stepped out of her room, smoothed a wrinkle out of her skirt, and felt ready to take on the world. Or at least some tea.
"Well!" she said. "Where do you find the best tea in all of Melior?"

"If you swoon, I will simply have to catch you, then." He held out his elbow for her and lead the way off of the ship. She was, simply put, one of the sweetest girls he had ever met. And it wasn't in that way where you knew there was something else sinister and insincere underneath, it was just nice.
Ffamran had to admit he didn't usually date nice girls.
It was a terrifying change of pace.
"Well, you find it at a little tea shop that my father's colleagues used to recommend to me when I was a boy. It was one of the many locations I enjoyed growing up. They actually have Darjeeling tea there. I have to warn you 'tis not quite as floral as our last outing, but it is a lovely little shop."
*waits until last possible second!! JUST TO MESS WITH YOU. THIS IS WHY I EXIST. :D*happylittlesongNovember 24 2008, 06:57:23 UTC
Giselle was as pink as her dress. No, she really didn't get this treatment from anyone else.
"Oh, I did like those flowers," she said, in a way that might have been just the tiniest bit regretful. "They were so very cheerful! But I'm certain that any tea shop you like is just a wonderful place!"
And she really was certain of it. At the moment, she was absolutely convinced that Ffamran was the sweetest, kindest man in all the world, and it would be physically impossible for him to enjoy tea from a store that was anything less than the most wonderful little tea shop ever. After all, any place with Darjeeling had to be good! (Giselle had never actually heard of Darjeeling tea. But Ffamran liked it, and therefore it must be excellent.)
It was delightfully easy to get Giselle to blush. He really couldn't help himself either.
Although he probably could have found a tea shop in Melior a little more in keeping with what Giselle would have liked, he was a bit terrified of the smells and colors that would have been constantly assaulting him had he chosen one. Besides, the tea ship he had selected was perfectly serviceable.
"Perhaps we can find some flowers on the way there, or back, to add a little bit to the appeal?" He was pretty sure there weren't any in the neighborhood, but they could always swing out of the way on the way back.
"It is just a few more blocks." He patted her arm comfortingly. "So how has the Way fared lately? We have not chitchatted as frequently as I would have liked."
"Ooh! All right!" Giselle was practically bouncing up and down. If she hadn't been clinging to Ffamran's elbow, she probably would've clapped her hands in giddiness. Flowers made everything better! (That and cake. And mice. And friendship. And true love. And -- well, a lot of things made everything better! Gosh, the world was a wonderful place, wasn't it?)
The mention of the Way, though... Giselle didn't exactly droop, but her smile did fade just the teensy-tiniest little bit. Oh, dear. All her thoughts from earlier came rushing back -- oh, why did Kurt have to leave? Well, all right, he had a very good reason, and Vash was perfectly capable (if slightly more flammable), and...oh dear.
"We've been just dandy!" she said finally, hoping she still sounded cheerful enough. "Our last play went off beautifully, Watanuki made a lovely Cornelia -- and the kiss --" She sighed dreamily, temporarily distracted by the beautiful memory of an overly-soppy play. Then she remembered what she'd been talking about, and she sighed again, a little less
( ... )
Ffamran had to hold onto her arm a little tighter, Giselle was libel to accidentally shake him loose with all of her cheer. She really didn't get out much -- that much was obvious.
"I caught the performance. It was truly memorable. I did wonder at the casting of a man for Cornelia, it seems you had plenty of lovely ladies to take on the role."
The rest of the news, however, was a surprised. Ffamran couldn't say he'd ever really met Kurt, or gotten a chance to talk to him, but it seemed that a ship without its Captain was a problem.
"I'm saddened to hear about your Captain's ill health. Did that leave -- Vash in charge, or have you found other Captain."
He figured Giselle probably didn't want to talk about it too much, her usually completely cheery voice was a slight bit less cheerful about the news, but he was interested, it was important to keep track of those sorts of things.
"The Military has not been particularly exciting lately, I can assure you." They were still working off the damage from Lunasa day, and the zombie attack.
