Today I washed my hair with shampoo for the last time in this little experiment. Luckily my anti-dandruff shampoo has only approved ingedients for a last-wash shampoo -- I washed my hair twice, to be sure that I got most of the silicones and mineral oils out. I then gooed my hair full of homemade goo (rosewater, a little apple cider vinegar, a little honey, some jojoba oil, and an egg yolk to emulsify the whole mess). I wrapped a damp towel around my head (note to self: damp towels do keep your hair damp, but they also keep your head really chilled) and kept it there while I did my laundry, for about two hours or so. I then washed it out with Urtekram's lavender conditioner, and put a little aloe vera gel in my hair before I got out of the shower and grabbed the towel. It took ages to dry. It's usually completely dry in about half an hour, but not this time. This is possibly a good sign (better moisture retention?). My hair ended up being somewhat more flyaway, but more voluminous and more wavy than it usually is! It needs to have the ends cut, badly. I'm working on that. And it still smells vaguely eggy. I think I'll try something without egg next time.
This is what my hair usually looks like:
Pretty straight and flat, with just a hint of waviness at the ends and the nape of the neck.
And this is how it looked today, when it had finally dried:
The waves start from the very top! Obviously, it's not weighted down by stuff anymore, which gives it more springiness, but also makes it more fluffy and less smooth. So far, so good, or at least OK. Hopefully it will get some natural shine in time.
Then I went out dancing! Yes, it was possibly a couple of years since I last visited the folk music café (which I started and helped run before, but left a few years back). M taught the "möllevitt", a Scanian folk version of the menuet, and then Erik Ask-Upmark played the harp for dancing, and I was asked to dance, so I danced. It went surprisingly well. I've missed that kind of dancing where you hold on to someone else closely and move together to really good music. The teamwork and the physical contact and the flow... schottis, slängpolska, rundpolska, menuett, vals. Yay! But I'm horribly unfit! I wish I could find a fun way to exercise.
And now I'm hungy.
