There is reality (thank you for the facts), and then there is the perception of reality, which can be just as strong. I have had at least one conversation with you on this topic. One issue is whether any particular vote was affected at the top or the bottom but for the social media votes? Who gets to carry on is at least important as who wins any particular vote
( ... )
It just occurred to me that there is a basic assumption built into the "1 social media vote" question that should be addressed. Because I think it's a basic, and classic, misunderstanding that a lot of people have when talking about "LJ vs non-LJ votes
( ... )
For me, it has always been about the writing. The voting is important, because the more votes I survive, the more writing I get to do. I do assume that generally, non-LJ readers vote primarily for their FB friends, but not exclusively. On my cynical days, I think that most FB friends just vote for their friends. On my non-cynical days, everything is unicorns and rainbows.
Because I should be actually working... that means that I'm doing my own mental unpacking here.
This is something else that I DON'T know if I've ever said, because people are going to enjoy the things they enjoy and I don't like to ruin it for anyone:
"Who gets to carry on is at least important as who wins any particular vote."
I've had people mention to me who "won" the vote in Week X... and I always stare at the screen with a "Huh?" look on my face. Because I don't look it at that way. Everyone who wasn't eliminated that week "won" - they survived. The board resets. Maybe someone gets more confidence and momentum that will carry them through a couple more weeks. Maybe that means other people will start paying attention to their work. (Always a plus)
But I know that people love clicky boxes, and even the "least competitive" folx love to know that they are being appreciated. So I try not to rain that particular parade. Get your victories where you can!

It's ALWAYS about the writing for me. The competition aspect equals more writing!
