It just occurred to me that there is a basic assumption built into the "1 social media vote" question that should be addressed. Because I think it's a basic, and classic, misunderstanding that a lot of people have when talking about "LJ vs non-LJ votes"...
What's the difference between a LJ user that only votes for their friend and a non-LJ user that only votes for their friend?
Are we assuming that non-LJ votes DON'T vote for more than one person? (before the last couple rounds that would not be accurate) Or that LJ voters are more likely to always read every single entry every week? (I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's unlikely)
If you follow the inner workings of, I was going to say various publishing awards - but let's be honest here, it's 2020, it's the inner workings of *everything*, there is always going to be personal preferences and some folxs are just going to know more people which will give them a leg up... navigating those isn't always easy and coming to peace with them is often difficult.
Personally, I hope people concentrate on the writing experience itself, and what they gained from it. There is always a core at the center of the apple. But it doesn't take away from the enjoyment of eating it.
For me, it has always been about the writing. The voting is important, because the more votes I survive, the more writing I get to do. I do assume that generally, non-LJ readers vote primarily for their FB friends, but not exclusively. On my cynical days, I think that most FB friends just vote for their friends. On my non-cynical days, everything is unicorns and rainbows.
