yesterday me and alyssa and her parents drove to my parents' house in hood river for our mostly yearly git together. my dad made some rad BBQ meatloaf and alyssa's mom enthusiastically narrated a maui slideshow from her facebook photos that my dad put together. but seriously, my dad barbecued some freaking amazing meatloaf. there's not much to say about the day here, but it was fun. i like it when our parents get together. they are definitely different personalities, but they get along and enjoy each others' company a lot i think.
on friday, i posted the shaky hands song
"mystic misery" to the soundcloud page i set up for us a while back. i figured i could just send out a few tendrils for the time being, even though nick said he wanted to think and talk to ben about doing the internet exposure thing. i also sent emails to music dudes casey from the willamette week and ezra from the mercury with a link to the song. today, a staff writer from the mercury emailed me and said he was writing about the song for the blog and asked for some recent band photos (which resulted in a very convoluted email because of the lineup issues in the past year).
so anyway, it was freaking easy to get that writeup. i've emailed the local weeklies so many times in the past about my own songs and even mayhaw's songs with no results at all, but all it takes is to say "new shaky hands song!" in the subject line and they're all over it. the fact that that it happens like that is ridiculous of course, but i am still super glad to be a part of this band because realms out of reach rules, nick writes great songs, i love playing with everyone, and people actually kind of give a shit. and i want to do all i can to help put it out there.
UPDATE:
they have posted it. comment on it and say you love it! because you do!
what's a life course?
