just got back from the shaky hands show at backspace. it was the closest to a perfect show that i've played with the shakies. it's not often i feel like this about a show, with any band. there are only a handful of tiger house shows (out of 50+ i played with them) that i felt were close to perfect. same with my solo/pugs shows. so this is a rare feeling. and i wasn't alone--nick and jeff felt the same way. nick said it was the first show since he started playing drums that he felt really solid. i didn't have any noticeable clams at all. it seemed like mike felt not as good about his own performance though, but i thought he sounded great. everyone sounded great, as far as i could tell. justin's perc and vox too.

the crowd was great and super into it. it even seemed like they were singing along to "all you recall," which seemed weird to me, but that's my favorite shaky hands song so i'll take it. casey jarman was there. i'm pretty sure britt daniel from spoon was there...i could be wrong but i'm 99% sure it was him. he came up to me afterword, shook my hand and said, "you guys rocked! this was the perfect way to celebrate the new year!!" i know he knows the shakies since they've played together. it's possible he thought i was mayhaw (it sounds weird, but people have mixed us up many times before). if it wasn't britt daniel, then some hipster does a really good impression of him.

after load in, mike and i went to get sushi at the sushi train place a few blocks from backspace. i suggested it because tiger house would often go there to eat if we were playing downtown. it was cool to spend some mano y mano time with mike. he's a good mellow dude. i'm really glad he's in the band. i'm glad he's playing keys/guitar now instead of me. i had fun doing it before, but bass is so much more fun, and mike is a better keys dude. i still miss mayhaw being in the band, but i have to say, i LOVE playing bass.

after sushi, i played lots of ms. pac man at backspace whilst the other bands played. i was really on tonight. i think it helped me get some nerves out too. i set the high score TWICE.

the setlist was posted in the previous post, and still is accurate, except we didn't play "summer's life." "mystic misery" was a kick ass closer though. it was the best we ever played it.

what's a clustereff?
