Harder Than It Looks

I started listening to the Tootsie Broadway soundtrack. Yesterday the music director sent out the vocal books with everyone's parts marked. He also sent out WAV files with the vocal parts recorded.

This is not easy music. There are some tight harmonies. Throughout the score the voice parts are designated as P1, P2, and P3, but I shift between P1 and P2 in different songs.

The last show where I had an ensemble part, I didn't do much. I hardly sang anything. I was excluded from two numbers. I was mostly window dressing.

For this show I am going to have to work and work hard. Rehearsals don't start until the end of July, but I have to start learning that music now. I have to know these harmonies.

I also have to think about choreography. The dance moves were learned in auditions were short, but intense. I suspect I will be doing a lot of moving in this show.

I am incredibly flattered the director and music director think I'm capable of this. There are only twelve women in the cast and at least three of them are lead or supporting characters, which means the female ensemble isn't large. This could be a moment to shine for me.

I'm excited, but I am also terrified. This show could make or break my future prospects with Curtain Call.

I haven't posted much in a while. Not much else going on. I caught a cold last week. It's annoying. This heat wave is unrelenting and I can't go to the pool. Mom said they have had to close the pool twice in the past few days. One time was because they over-chlorinated it. We suspect they had to over-chlorinate given the number of small children coming to the pool lately. Nieces, nephews, and grandchildren are all flocking there for a swim. I get so squicked when I see so many kids in the pool.

I'm excited for the debate on Thursday. I'm going out to dinner with some friends, but I think we are all excited about the debate and won't stay out late. I shouldn't be so willing to leave the dinner though. It's with my friend Monique who is in town after moving to Virginia two years ago. My friend Dayle is also joining us and she is moving to California at the end of the year. I should spend time with them while I can.

I'm not too happy about congressional primaries. My representative, Jamal Bowman lost the primary to my county executive, George Latimer. I always liked George. He's very popular here (at least among Democrats). In fact, a woman who was canvassing for Bowman even said, "I love George." However, his congressional campaign was funded by billionaire donors who are primarying as many congressional progressives as they can. They want to make Democrats beholden to big money again. I don't trust George Latimer not to do their bidding if he wins the seat. Yet it's going to be a lesser of two evils situation. I hate to think of what his Republican challenger will be like.

What's worse than George Latimer winning his primary is Lauren Boebert winning hers. What is wrong with people? How can anyone in his or her right mind vote for that woman? She's a train wreck. She is uninformed and uneducated. She would rather garner publicity than legislate. It goes to show you Americans don't vote for issues or things that matter. They vote on emotions and they vote for personalities.
