Roadtrip weekend, and a reminder at the bottom: Game Day Sat!

Mar 28, 2007 12:57

Fri, 3/23: Got up bright and early just after 4a to get ready to go. urielgodfire stayed the night at my place to save time rather than having to get him from his place in the morning. We hit wooko's place just before 5a. The 3 of us hit Shari's for some morning fuel then hit the road just before 6a for ~13 hours of driving. It went pretty well, and relatively quickly. I got us to Eugene, OR; urielgodfire got us to somewhere in CA (Redding?) and wooko got us to damienroc's place.

Between my and wooko's mp3 players and both of our DS's, we passed the time rather well. Oh, and the smart idea of packing some good road trip food worked really well.

, I picked up several very recently, 2 kind of for the trip. I recently got FF 1&2: Dawn of Souls, Advanced Wars and something called Rebelstar: Tactical Command. I picked up FF 1&2 because I recently just got in a mood to play 1 through 6, since they're all out for the GBA/DS, and I thought I'd start at the beginning. wooko told me Kmart was clearing out many DS games and Advanced Wars was one of them; I picked that sucker up for $9. Been wanting it anyways. I also snagged Rebelstar for $10. I figured I like turn based strategy games, so I'd go for it. Advanced Wars was the MVP of the weekend, both on the trip, and when we got there (more on that later). Rebelstar is pretty fun. If you liked the old PC game X-Com, you'd like it. Because they're the same. In fact, I will refer to Rebelstar from this point to X-Com GBA. It's a TBS game, humans vs aliens, it uses action points, the gun firing mode are called Snap Shot, Aimed Shot, Snap Burst and Aimed Burst... yeah, X-Com. And I only ever played the demo of X-Com. I should look for it on Underdogs... The best part of that game is that it has hotseat play too (win!).

We finally arrived at damienroc's around 7p, which I think was us making really good time. We has some fish and veggies for dinner, and spent most of the night settling in while watching a Raiders of the Lost Ark and playing video games.

Sat, 3/24: Woke up sometime in the morning, not too much earlier than noon, and lounged a bit. Some of damienroc's roomies eventually wandered out front and we all had some fun chilling and playing video games. I think one thing I have to say about this weekend is that while we didn't really go out that much, it was really fun hanging out in an apt full of people with a wide variety of geekery; video games, board games, movies, etc. During this time was when Advanced Wars became the MVP. There were a total of 4 DSs in the apt and several of us had a blast kicking around Combat Mode. I also tried some regular turn based vs mode, I really want to play this game more.

Eventually we got to the showering and going out for damienroc's bday festivities. With 2 of his roomies, we met up w/ 2 more of his friends from the area and had a good dinner at Chevy's. After that, it was back to the apt for games and fun and geekery. One of the games we played was Scene It, which I had a lot of fun at, and am apparently good at knowing actors from old pictures of them. I got all 3 that came up, sort of. The 3rd one I knew the actor, but not his name. I may have to snag a copy of it. We also played 1st Edition Big Idea... man, the 2nd edition is so much better. And I have to get a copy of that, too.

Sun, 3/25: Man, I think I'm already forgetting exactly what happened each day XD I know we got up around the same time as Sat, had something light to eat, watched Jesse play a bunch more God of War II and then damienroc took off for a bit of climbing at Mission Cliffs. That was pretty fun, I sent a number of V0s, one V1, and made good progress on a few other V1s. Afterwards we headed back to the apt for food and more gaming. We were thinking of going out to see 300, but we got done eating too late and were too engrossed in geeking out. The funniest part of that was that Cooking Mama was being played a lot at the same time that urielgodfire was in the kitchen cooking for real XD

Mon, 3/26: The drive back flew by at least as fast as the drive down, maybe a lil' faster since we had damienroc in the car with us for more conversation and another driver. We were all pretty tired at the end of that though, and glad to be back in our home town.

REMINDER! Game Day at my place on Sat, 3/31. Show up anytime 4p or later. I'll be making my soon-to-be-famous low fat seafood chowder, damienroc plans on making a turkey chili and maybe a vegetarian chili. Bring food, board games, video games (I have a Wii, Xbox and PS2), Nintendo DSs, or just yourselves to have fun. Also, tell me if you're coming.
