I came across this quote earlier today at The Rest is Noise, a quotation by American Art and Cultural critic Dave Hickey in his 1997 book Air Guitar, which is, according to Wikipedia, "a memoir containing 23 essays or "love songs" addressing his experiences as a music critic and an art dealer."

Back home from a whirlwind birthday trip to the Sunshine Coast to visit family, lasting just over 24 hours. The ferry over was operating on only one engine, and shortly after we disembarked I could hear the fire alarm sounding. Exciting. Dr. Maeno pulls at the forceps; with her right hand, Orito pushes the fetus's head toward the birth canal. She tells the maid to grasp the baby's arm and pull.
