Edinburgh

We started off in Scotland at Matt's sister's in Linlithgow. It's been great to catch up with Yvonne and the family again. We then had a few days in Edinburgh before heading up to the Highlands. The Edinburgh Festival was on and though we didn't go to any actual shows we definitely got the vibe...

It was hoachin'!

A couple of the sideshows we saw.
The guy trying to get the group of blokes to do sexy dances
was very funny. And yes, that man IS wearing frilly boxers :P

We did a bus tour of the town. Fun! Even though Matt spent his
younger years in Edinburgh, and I've been there a couple
times before, there's still a lot you don't end up seeing.
We got the ticket that allowed us to hop on and off all four buses.
We managed three and on each one it took us on a slightly different route
and we listened to Horrible Histories guide to Edinburgh on one!

Calton Hill
Martyr Monument is on the left. We actually walked up there today.

The Castle

They're putting in a tram line so the road's all digged up :D

An exhibition of funny signs

Our trip to the Art Gallery included the "Discovery of Spain"
- Spain through British artist's eyes. Was excellent.

Lady in a Fur Wrap by El Greco

This was the permanent gallery, it's so beautiful inside.
Includes Scottish artworks - some amazing pieces. I especially liked
The Quarrel and Reconciliation of Oberon and Titania paintings
by Noel Joseph Paton and The Skating Minister by by Sir Henry Raeburn.
You can see them here

This was a rather good black pudding in Linlithgow and
haggis with tatties in Edinburgh. Wish I could find as good ones at home.

Looking across Princes Street Gardens to The Royal Mile

Princes Street Gardens - in between a rainy spell :)
