Hawai'i ~ Day Two

May 29, 2008 20:56

Our second day in Waikiki consisted of this: eat, laze about in the sun, swim, shop, eat, shop, shop, shop, eat, drink :)

It was my first time actually sunbathing on a beach in years. I’m not really a beachy type person (although I do love just wandering along the sand and exploring rock pools). But now to add to Positano in Italy, I’ve discovered a second beach in the world that I’m happy to be a beach bunny. Well at least for a couple of hours!

Breakfast was at the Hula Grill at the Outrigger Hotel

at the Outrigger Hotel, the one next to ours

And the view from our balcony seat... The Royal Hawaiian Hotel

My breakfast: Hula Grill Loco Moco:
hamburger steak, fried egg, shiitake mushroom gravy

Sis' breakfast: Buttermilk pancakes with maui pineapple and coconut

Extreme closeups! Because they were so damn delicious...

And now for a bit of beaching. I took a little walk...

Like to rent a surfboard?

You can get one here too...

And this is...

The famous Duke Kahanamoku

Back along the beach. The first hotel you see is the one we were staying at, the Moana Surfrider

And now, a bit of browsing and shopping before lunch.
I have a better photo of the entrance to the International Market Place but I like this one
because of the cute ladies dancing and the stance on Hunky Golden God standing behind them...

Hee!

Some more eating. Lunch! This time at Dukes. Man, this is hard work!
We shared the Buffet and Salad Bar. The meats and seafood you see are
Sauteéd Mahi Mahi, Grilled Teriyaki Chicken, Kalua Pork (this one
was a bit too weirdly smoked) & Cabbage and Buttermilk chicken (SO good!)

We also shared Crad and Mac Nut Wontons
with mustard plum sauce and Beach Fries (Duke’s classic seasoned waffle fries) Mmmm, crispy.

And then. OH, THEN!
My sister had mentioned the Hula Pie. And I had been awaiting it.
And it was blissful.
"Macadamia nut icecream on chocolate cookie crust,
topped with chocolate fudge, whipped cream and more macadamia nuts.
Gaze upon it.

It was creamy, it wasn't too sweet, it was lightly nutty, it was thickly chocolately.

Do not fear. We finished it.

Back to the shops and...

TOKIDOKI!!!!

The Christian Dior store in which I saw the
La Collection Particuliere Passage No 4, No 8 and No 9.
I am so behind the times I didn't know about these.
Vague reviews and some more pics of the gorgeous bottles later.

Check out the babywear on the right. A couple of outfits and you could send your kid to uni instead!

I loved the purple one. The amazing colour of it didn't come out in this pic.

New sunnies!

After our day of heavy-duty sunning, eating and shopping, it was time for a cocktail at:

The Royal Hawaiian (Pink Hotel) Mai Tai Bar

Now this is deep fried goodness: Royal Pupu (Hawaiian appetisers) Platter
Coconut Battered Shrimp (Fresh Island Shrimp Wrapped in Crisp Coconut with
a Sweet and Spicy Thai Chili Sauce), Teriyaki Chicken Skewers, and Thai Spring Rolls

The coconut prawns were ACHINGLY good.
Sweet, crispy, tender, munchy heavenly good.
It hurt to take each bite because I didn't want to finish it.

I had a Bliss on the Beach with Pineapple Rum, Coconut Rum and
Mango Rum, layered with pineapple juice, passion orange juice and guava juice.
You get to keep the glass. Makes for awkward packing later on!

Sis had Pink Palace with White Rum and coconut blended with Pineapple Juice and a dash of pink!

Bid ye goodnight!
