Scents o' the Day ~ No. 29 ~ For Me or For Others?

Today I planned a small order from Mythos Mixtures. I’m on a bit of a budget for a while, but have still allowed for some smallish treats :)

I ordered the beautiful Lakshsmi (see near end of entry) but really wanted to get Saturnus as well. It was a Yule 2007 LE but I thought it had been made permanent... Not so. Poop!

It's a very well blended mix of “fresh baked goods from the market, warm delicious honey, and several casks of fine wine”. And indeed it is. It’s a lovely sweet true bread and wine scent, with just the right amount of honey, no note overpowers the other. It’s warm and rich and there is a musk in it that comes off the skin gorgeously on drydown.

Due to my disappointment with Saturnus, I wanted to get another couple of scents, so went through my notes. I discovered I’d liked my testings of Pixie and Satyr last year, so I tested them out again.

Pixie is very pretty sugared blue and purple berries with a touch of musk. Lovely and light, yet with surprisingly good sillage. It’s sweet but not too sweet and very fizzy and bubbly. I was thinking it wasn’t quite right for me, but maybe...

I love wearing multiple scents so was testing Satyr at the same time. Satyr is “warm honey musk and grapes throughout”. It is now that it occurs to me that Satyr is similar to Saturnus, but Saturnus has that lovely warm bready note which makes me love it more. Still, I like it and it's extra good with Pixie on my other hand.

I write my fragrant notes down then get back to work, heading down to the mailroom to pick up a courier smelling like a drunk Pixie. The mailroom guy who sometimes serves me said, “You smell great today!”

I was so pleasantly surprised that I didn’t think and shoved the hand covered in Pixie into his face, saying excitedly, “Is it this one?” To which he replied, “Yes! That’s it!”

As I wandered back to my desk, I wondered if maybe he said “That’s it!” so quickly to make the crazy smelly woman go away whilst possibly wishing to retract said compliment.

The compliment got me thinking though, do I wear fragrance for me or for others?

Of course, I wear it mostly for me - I wouldn't go around wearing something I didn't like just because I knew someone else liked it - but it's very much my aromatherapy. I've proved it to myself after being overseas a few times. I don't wear fragrance quite as much when I'm on holiday (although I definitely still wear it!), partly because I'm busy being a tourist and distracted, but mostly because I'm more relaxed. Getting through my normal life with work taking up a large part, I NEED my nice smells! But I do like it when other people like what I wear too.

I decided to get Pixie, along with Satyr. Sniffing the lovely sillage around myself, I think it was a combination of both of them... and a touch of the Love Potion Magickal Perfumerie's Super for Women I'd put on earlier which smells oddly metallic on me at first but then the notes of “whipped cake batter, butter, cream, sugars, benzoin, maple, champagne and sweet milk” (How could I not try a fragrance with notes like that?!) combine to become a most deliciously rich, white chocolate on my skin.

This was confirmed later when I'd refreshed all three and a guy came over to my desk to pick something up said “It smells nice over here.” He then seemed to take a deep breath. This does not happen often! Which makes me wonder if I'm stinky all those other days!

Yes, compliments are great when they happen (and I hope not to offend anyone when they don't, but oh well, I cannae please everyone!) but I'm still mostly wearing them for me.
