Let's do lunch.

Interesting lunch with the Vic Park Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Met up with a couple of people who might be able to do something at some point. Got almost-invited to present an hour-long talk on my specialty subject to various businessfolk at a date to be determined; will have to see if that pans out.

(Also, will have to see if I can scrounge together an hour's worth of material, given that much of what I do is intuitive and the rest I've been practicing elevator pitches for; five- and ten-second "hooks" to interest people in hearing more about what I can do for them.)

Amusing politics there: because it's all business, they invited the local federal member, who belongs to the party in opposition - the slightly more right-wing one. He got a lot of mileage out of slagging off the current party in power and saying that he was against various things. I managed to dodge a later question about who I voted for by mentioning the name of my own local electorate, which is an ultra-safe seat for that same opposition party.

The invitation advised to bring a bottle of wine, and I obliged by turning up with something created by a middle-distant relative, who is/was a big name in the local wine biz. If nothing else, it was a good conversation starter, as apparently a lot of business folk in this state actually know of him or know him personally. The lady at the local liquor shop I picked it up from had known him for 45 years, ferinstance.

Such things constantly surprise me, as I've never been much of a drinker or socialiser, and so had only ever known the guy as "one of Dad's cousins", rather than someone semi-famous.

As a family bonus, I guess, I showed the label around a lot at the lunch, as it's a bit boutiquey (small winery) and not many people had heard of it. (Which is probably why it had El First Cousin Once Removed's name in small print on the label as well.) With any luck, it'll sell a couple more bottles.

Sigh... networking isn't really my forté. I'd really much rather be plain old working, and have someone else doing the marketing side of things. Bleah.

And, for no apparent reason:
SO FUNNY!
