She works hard for the money...

So, I just realized that work is the perfect time/place to write in this here "journal." All the tiny snippets of free time between soulsucking beepbeeps and dispatchthisismarys provide the perfect opportunity to catch up. So, last night my 501 class met for the next to the last time. We talked about Avery Gordon's "Ghostly Matters" and got our position paper prompts. Writing that paper should be rather enjoyable. I am determined not to let myself end up writing it in one panicked-last minute stint. We got back our Baudrillard precis and out Caughey precis. We made plans to meet next week and discuss our individual choices for the theoreticians/enrichment readings and our "cultural artifact" that we will each be including in our papers. We're going to have pizza delivered to class, and then go bowling. I love grad school.
After class, not too many people felt like going out. I hadn't eaten dinner and know Tim has a soft spot for In and Out, so I suggested we go there. It was weird. After most classes I walk with Tim and Paul and sometimes Ian at least as far as the library before we part ways. Somehow last night I ended up making the trek from UH to parking with Jimmy and Brendan. And it ended up being an evening out with the dudes. It was Tim, Ian, Richard, Brendan, Jimmy, and myself. I ordered my friend "well done," apparently Tim wasn't aware such a thing existed. He ate like half my fries, what a jerk. We started talking about our precis and presentation grades. Jimmy conceded that I seem to be "winning" by half a point and a plus mark. I did get a 7++ on my Caughey precis, further proving that Pam is indeed in love with me. Awesome. J/K.
So, Rhonda and I (and Katie) went to the movies with Jon on Sunday night. We went to the Bay Theatre to see "It's a Wonderful Life." I had somehow managed not to have seen this movie ever before. It was great. Okay, I cried. So what? That movie is so relevant, it's amazing...and sad. I love seeing Christmas movies for the first time. Last year it was A Christmas Story and Christmas Vacation. So far this year I've knocked out It's a Wonderful Life. They're playing Miracle on 34th Street "at"(on) the Fox Theatre next Tuesday night...but I suppose I'll be in class. Oh well.
So, only one more week of class and then "finals" week. I still have to read for my consumer cultures class for next week and turn in both of those stupid papers, and the final in that class is due Monday of finals week. All that to get out of the way before I can focus on the paper that really matters.
