Once again, in the face of massive amounts of homework I turn to you livejournal instead. Well, not entirely in stead. I did just finish sneding a response email to my Consuner Cultures class. I found this weeks readings surprisingly invigorating. I also found the one cup of coffee (admitted brewed too strongly) that I had with breakfast to be surprisingly sketch-inducing. So, I did finish my reading for one class and it's still relatively early. Unfortunately I still have over a hundred pages of Thomas Kuhn's "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" to look forward to. Luckily it is still early in the day. Why is it always during the times when I have the most homework to do that everyone wants to do fun things? Coming home Friday night from the airport and staying up too late and doing not a page of reading, I essentially sealed my fate as far as any other plans for the weekend were concerned. Saturday after work, I came home and did some reading and was trying to decide whether or not to go to Nick's house for his games and chili-cheese fries party. As much as I wanted to go, I was on the fence. But Renee called me and talked me into by saying that she and Steve and Christiaan were only going to see me. I'm so easy sometimes. So I did go, and though I did not have any chili, or cheese, or fries (though I did have a few bites of "American pie" brought to me by Wnedy after I agreed that "maybe I would have some pie later"), and left soon after game time started (it was already rather late by this point), I did see friends I had not seen lately.
I went out to the garage for some alone time with my drums before 10:00, but was soon joined by all other party-attendees. When Steve picked up a guitar and an impromptu jam session appeared to me looming, I lost all nerve and wanted no part. Brian brought me a beer, and that helped a little. But playing with strangers (and professional musicians...I know it's just a stupid status thing) scares me, and I soon abdicated the throne to Brian.
I really wish I had more time to hang out and do things with people. I've worked in some leisure time though. Rhonda and I went to the Hollywood Bowl last Saturday night to see Yo La Tengo and Bright Eyes. It was amazing to finally be there with her, we had the best time. Yo La Tengo was so good. Unfortunately we missed M. Ward because of my stupid job. Speaking of my stupid job. They've made a habit of giving me "special" tasks as of late. It's a bit bewildering, but it gets me off the phone, which is nice. Also, when I went to speak with the manager the other day about some project I was working on he kind of out of the blue asked me if I would be interested in trying out a new position. He's leaving dispatch to go manage the routing team, and said they will be looking for another person in the near future. I hadn't spoken a word to him since my interview, and all of a sudden he's talking my ear off about what they do and how much more flexible it is and how the first thing he's going to do is give them a raise. I can't tell if he hates me and wants to torture me, or thinks I'm awesome. I'll keep you posted.
I guess I should go read about science now.
