"Gayest work party ever", or "Moving In"

So, this week is finals week. The final paper in my Consumer Culture class is due tomorrow evening. I just started writing it about two hours ago. It's going fairly well so far. It's two parts. The first part is supposed to be at least five pages. I've got about three and a half at the moment, but I'm nowhere near done. Then we have to do an analysis of this ad that our professor picked. That's supposed to be about two pages, but will probably be even harder to write on than the actual final question. Either way, I'm confident I will get both finished today. I really must. Then tomorrow I have to start working on my final position paper for 501. It's composed of 3 parts and will be a bit lengthier. Plus I'll need to time to make sure it's in the right format and that sort of thing. I'm actually sort of looking forward to writing that one. I hope I can do this semester justice.

So, last night was my company(or should I say the company I work for) Christmas (or Holiday) party. When I found out about it a month or so back, I wasn't even sure I would be interested in going. But when they asked everyone whether or not they would be attending, I said yes just in case. So I got two tickets to the Time Warner party at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney. So many things made me predict that this was not going to be a good time. First of all, I'm not really all that tight with very many of my co-workers. I hear some of them talking about hanging out all the time. I would be jealous, except that I can't really see myself hanging out with then either. So, I asked Rhonda what she thought. Last year she took me to her company party. It was a big step, being that she had known most of her co-workers for years and years and none of them knew she was the big G. It meant a lot to me that she took me, even though it made me incredibly nervous. This years her company isn't doing as well, has closed one of three offices and laid off several people. They will not be having a company party this year. So, we thought we would give mine a try. After I got off work yesterday, I came home and changed ans we headed out. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I had heard some of the people I work with making arrangements for a hotel room for the evening, and so I knew some of them were going to make a night out of it. They even send us an e-mail about discounted rates for company employees. Weird. The party started at 6:30 and we got there soon after. While walking over to the HOB we ran into a girl I trained named J'anet and her boyfriend. They stood in line with us to get in and when we got inside we got a table together. I was pretty sure they were the only people from my office that I would be hanging out with. After we finished eating a ton of cheese for dinner (and a few other things), we went to look around the rest of the place. A band was setting up on the stage and it looked like there was to be dancing. I ran into Michael the guy who was in charge of my orientation class at the bar. He introduced me to his wife. I introduces Rhonda as my wife, and he didn't really seem to get it. I also tried this later on Fernando, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to be friends anymore. So, Rhonda and I had a couple drinks. We walked around, found dessert, people watched. We saw an old dyke couple when we came in and kept seeing them. They looked so much alike it was hard to tell them apart. I saw some people I work with, but since we're not really friends, I didn't approach them. I saw some of the older people I work with over by the side of the dance floor and walked over to say hi. They asked me to take their picture and then made fun of me a little, but then told me they like me and that's how they show it. I sort of believed them. I introduced them to Rhonda and then we wandered off again. When we went back to the bar, I saw another guy from my office walk in with this kind of young punk-rock looking dude. I was kind of suspicious about who this character could be, but didn't think much of it. We went back into the main room and some people were dancing, we danced together a while. They had been taking pictures on the way in and we walked back out front to consider whether or not we should pose. Somehow we met these two queens, though I'm not sure I remember exactly how we struck up a conversation. I had been watching one of them dance earlier. They came with us and waited in line behind us to take pictures. After that they bought us some drinks and called us Muriel and Rhonda because their favorite movie is Muriel's Wedding. They loves that Rhonda's name is actually Rhonda. Robert works for Time Warner, he and Jeremy have been together for nine years. We loved them. We hung out with them a lot the rest of the evening. Later in the evening we got in line again to take a picture of all four of us. They did this neat thing with the pictures. They took two pictures and then made these plastic things where you turn it and the picture changes. The one of the four of us is Rhonda's favorite thing...ever. So, I don't really feel very confident dancing, and I was feeling a little weird about doing it in front of work people. But when someone as hot as Rhonda loves you and wants to dance (and you've had a few drinks) it's hard to say no. So, we went back out on the dance floor. I saw a group of people from my office dancing and made my way their direction. And then everything changed. They saw me and pulled me into the circle and started dancing with/on me. The other Mary from my office, the older one made a joke about me not dancing with her and I pretended for a second I was going to make out with her to make it up to her and then she pretended to be disappointed when I didn't. I danced with people I've hardly ever had a conversation with. This big dyke who worked in my office when I first started (and who I affectionately dubbed "Gangster dyke)but then left for the Anaheim office came up to me and Rhonda and totally perved on us. She told me "I envy you" to which I replied that sometimes I envy myself. It was kind of creepy when she kept insisting that we had to come back to her room with her after the party. Rhonda told everyone that we're moving in together. She danced with my coworkers and those old queens and those two old dykes. Apparently when I stepped out to the restroom at one point I missed a dance circle and Rhonda's turn in the middle and everyone chanting her name. I talked to both of the supervisors that I never really cared for. Lisette showed up even though she's been out for like two weeks with a torn ligament or something. I ran into her and her husband and Gangster dyke on my way to the bathroom later. Gangster dyke started talking about what a gorgeous girlfriend I have, and Lisette chimed in to agree. I heard a lot last night about how hot Rhonda is. You know what...she is. I never quite know how to feel, because people seem so surprised that I have such a hot girlfriend. I'm pretty sure that most of the people I work with had previously assumed that my girlfriend was...books. Rhonda kept talking about what a great time she was having. I was shocked that it turned out to be so fun. She said her works parties never would have been so queer. When I introduced that guy from my office to "my girlfriend Rhonda" he said "Oh, I didn't know..." and then pointed to his punk-rock looking guest...that one I did not see coming. It's weird, but I'm sort of looking forward to going to work on Tuesday. We decided to take off sometime after 11:00. After narrowly avoiding a run-in with Gangster dyke, we said goodbye to some people and made our exit. I called my friend Tim to see if his work party was still going on and he insisted that we "stop fucking around and get here." He works at a bicycle shop in downtown Fullerton not far from Rhonda's...I mean our place*(more on this later). So, we went to Banner's Bikes for some more party. They had a keg. We hung out for a while with Tim, and Joe Barrett was there. I put my nuts in four people's mouths at one time. As they were shutting it down, I somehow ended up in Rhonda's car with Tim laying across my lap. Joe stole one of Tim's shoes and stuck it on one of Rhonda's windshield wipers and she turned them on and watched one of Tim's shoes flop back and forth across the windshield. I think we got home at about 1:00. All in all, it was a surprisingly awesome night. Rhonda said she loves my work. I told her that we would probably be expected to hang out with these people now.

*So, I've been thinking for along time of what to do about my living arrangement. I've hardly spent a night in my own apartment in I don't know how long. At first I wasn't sure about living together, but that's pretty much what we've been doing for the better part of a year. At this point it seems ridiculous to keep paying rent for a place I never spend any time in, while Rhonda pays rent on a two-bedroom place on her own. So I wasn't sure how to bring it up with Carolyn. I thought that if I moved out she might not want to live there anymore, and I didn't want to put her in a position where she had to move in with Josh or anything. So being the coward that I am, I just avoided confronting her about it. I went home one night last week to pay rent, and she kept saying "move home Mary, move home" to which I replied "I can't baby, I can't." I guess she got the picture becuase she called me a few days later and asked me if I was going to move out. I told her that I'd thought about it but didn't know how she would feel about it. Apparently she had thought about it too, she told me she had a friend who was looking for a place. So, her friend Audry is going to move in. Oddly enough Carolyn is going to move into my room (the room we shared originally) and Audry is going to move into Carolyn's room. Weird. So, I'm moving out. I'll be writing papers all week this week, and we're having our Holiday party on Saturday...so hopefully I can start moving some stuff next Sunday. I guess I'd better get most of it moved before Christmas. We're leaving Christmas Eve to drive up to Rhonda's parent's house in Redding and then on to SF for the New Year.
