"Here, hang on a second." Belle handed Becky her lunch bag, then stuffed her math book into her messenger bag before closing up her locker and turning around to grin at the other girl. "I need, like, four more hands some days." She took her lunch back, shifting the bag full of books on her shoulder, then let out a playful puff of breath. "We grabbing Marisel, or she already at lunch?"
Doing a weird little dance step, Becky fell into step with her, starting for the stairs. "She's already downstairs. Chatting up that boy from her Biology class, I think. Henry; you know him? The tall, dark-haired guy who hangs out with Justin and Will?" As they shifted to the right side of the staircase to let a herd of younger kids pass, Becky looked over her shoulder at Belle, a step behind. "She said she wanted to thank him for helping her with the stuff they did in class today, but I think she thinks he's cute too." She giggled, flapping a hand when Belle came around to walk next to her. "Not my type, though."
Saved from having to make any sort of remark to that, Belle pushed open the door to the lunch-room, looking around for either Marisel or Henry, figuring if she found one, she'd find the other. Well, there was Henry... Oh. Gosh. She flicked a sidelong glance at Becky, and sighed internally as she saw the other girl had already noticed. Eyes slitted and everything. "Looks like he finished talking to Marisel," she murmured, lowering her gaze as they made their way past Henry and the blonde girl practically plastered to his side. "Let's go find her, huh?"
Finally finding Marisel towards the back, near one of the other doors and picking dejectedly at the empanada in her hand, Belle plopped next to her, keeping what she hoped was a diplomatic, but sympathetic silence. She set the bag of books on the floor next to her seat, then opened her lunch bag up, pulling out two slices of pizza with a tiny grin. She hadn't realized El had saved her the last of the mushroom pizza, or that he'd even gone ahead and packed two of the breadsticks, which she could have sworn they had finished off. Looking up at Becky under her lashes, they spent a moment sending silent signals, before Becky grinned and leaned over, trying to keep from upending her drink or her salad. "So what're you doing for Thanksgiving, Belle? You and your brothers going to do something?"
She blinked, somehow not expecting that to be how Becky broke the ice, then frowned a bit. "I don't know, to be honest. Everything's still kind of smoothing out. I should ask El tonight." Or, actually... She reached for her 'phone, pulling up El's number and starting to type. "Reminds me, anyway..."
Hey, what are we doing for Thanksgiving? We have any plans?
