The holidays had never really been a big deal to Erica, mostly because she'd never really had anyone in her life she could spend them with in the way that most people had. It shouldn't have surprised her that this year was different, that her Grandmother had called her and asked her if she'd be interested in spending Thanksgiving with them. She'd asked if Joanne was going to be there, and when her Grandma had answered in the affirmative, Erica had told her she needed to think about it.
She had no idea if she was ready to face Joanne again, didn't know what she would say to her if she did. And it wouldn't just be Joanne, it would be her husband and new daughter, too, and she just didn't know if she had it in her to see Joanne being a mother to that little girl when she'd walked out on her all those years ago. And she realized then that she didn't even know her sister's name, had tried so hard not to think about her because she didn't want to hate the child because of the mother. It wasn't right or rational to have any negative feelings toward that baby because she was getting what Erica hadn't.
There was only one thing Erica was sure about, and that was that if she did decide to go, she didn't want to go alone, which meant she needed to talk to J.J. about it. He was supposed to be off work soon and had already said he'd be over after, so she decided to just wait for him to get there rather than calling or texting him.
