What a week, Michael thought to himself. Finding Kyle hadn't gone any way like he had expected. Kyle had remembered him, after a moment, but... God. He hadn't expected to find his best friend so... damaged, he decided, reflecting on it. If he could, he'd be taking his friend home to Marathon now, rather than putting it off until November. He'd gotten the barest of details out of Kyle - a broken engagement, the wedding was supposed to be on Veteran's Day. And that just fucking sucked. And there wasn't a damn thing he could do to make Kyle feel better.
But, there was something that he could do make himself feel better. He hadn't made time to put in at the local shelters recently, and he missed helping out. It wasn't home, but animals were animals. He'd scoped out his prospects, calling around to see who needed help. He'd found on that had sounded promising and made arrangements to show up that afternoon. He entered the animal shelter with a smile on his face, looking around inquisitively.
