Hesitantly, Kudzu approached the shop. He wanted to send Peony something as a late Christmas present. He'd been at a loss and wound up sending her just a card and some cash for books. Two weeks late an idea had finally come to him. He'd looked online for a store. With a grimace, he stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it into a can before going inside.

Jay looked up as the door chime (part of the Batman theme song from the 60's show) sounded. He smiled at the man, "Welcome to Oddball 42. Help you with anything?"

"Hi...huh. Yeah." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "My friend, she loves those Sandman comics and I was wondering if you any..uh..model... figurine things?"

"For the Sandman series? We've got Dream and the rest of Endless as well as some of the supporting characters. Did you want figurines specifically? Because we have a set of bookends with Dream and Death." Jay asked, curious. "Most of what we have is in the glass display cases here and here." He pointed to the cases that held the DC/Vertigo merchandise.

Tegan hopped out of the old station wagon and entered the store. She loved this place, even if some of her more punk-oriented friends thought she was too cool to be nerdy. She couldn't help herself, though - she'd gotten into reading comic books when she was a gutter kid, raggedy copies of the X-Men passed around from person to person like a precious commodity. Now that she could afford comics on a semi-regular basis, she liked to swing by to see what they had.

"Hey Jay," she said, smiling at the owner. "I know it's not a Wednesday but I missed the past two weeks since it's been so busy with work. Sorry about that."

Jay smiled at her, "No problem, I put some of your regular stuff behind the counter for you. Let me know if there's anything else you want added to it." He liked his regulars and Tegan had been on the list of people to email. "Work does that from time to time. Good to see you."

"Thanks," she said, shaking her dreads a bit by the door to get the water off. "I'm glad for all the work; being freelance means that sometimes there are droughts. Did the new Fables come out? I can't remember if it was supposed to drop last week or this week." She glanced around the store, scanning, subconsciously taking in the new covers.

"Anything new from Virgin?" She never asked him to pull Virgin Comics stuff but she almost inevitably ended up grabbing them. A few years ago they'd done a whole series on Indian gods that she'd fallen in love with.

"Fables: Witches came out." Jay replied. "I set aside a copy for you." He smiled at her, "And nothing yet, though they were bought out and I think the new name is Liquid Comics."

Even though it was raining, Marie couldn't help stopping by the comic store she and her brother had passed when she was looking at apartments. He had refused to let her stop in because, once Marie became fixated on something, it was hard to bring her back to the task at hand.

That would not be an issue today however, and Marie excitedly pushed open the doors Oddball 42. "Oh my god," she couldn't help exclaiming quietly to her self when she heard that the door chime was part of the Batman theme song from the 60's show. "That's awesome!" She could tell she was going to like it here.

Jay looked up and saw a pretty redhead he hadn't seen before. "Welcome to Oddball 42, can I help you find something?" From the look on her face, he bet she'd become one of his regulars.

"Just thought I'd check this place out," Marie said, smiling at the man behind the counter. She liked the looks of the place, but a what made or broke a good comic book store was always selection. "You wouldn't happen to have issue #9 of American Vampire, would you? I didn't get the chance to buy it before I started packing."

Jay thought for a moment,"DC/Vertigo right? If it's not over there in the DC section of the store, then I can special order it for you. You a Stephen King fan then?"

Aaron fiddled with the key fob in his coat pocket as he strolled up Magnolia. Might be raining, but his Accord was hovering on empty and he was broke as hell, so he'd walked over from his apartment. He didn't exactly need to get out, but the new story he was working on wasn't going anywhere. He hated being stuck -- at this rate he'd never make it to storyboarding and his 'unfinished' pile was growing every week, seemed like. But he didn't feel like stewing in his apartment worrying about it.

When he reached Oddball, he slowed down almost out of reflex, pulling off his glasses and wiping the moisture off them with his shirt. Considering the comic he was writing was giving him a headache, dropping by a comic shop was probably not the best idea, but... fuck it, comic shopping was never a bad idea.

Sure, there were groceries he should buy, but he had priorities. He opened the door and stepped in out of the rain.

Jay grinned at the man. "Welcome to Oddball 42. Would you like a towel to dry off with?"

Aaron grinned. "I'm good actually, thanks. I won't melt -- not at this temperature, at least.

"I figured I'd drop in and see if you have the latest Batman Beyond. Came out last week, I think."

Jay nodded, "We do. It'll be on the New Arrivals shelf over there." He pointed to it. "Let me know if there's anything else you need."

Madi had seen the shop a couple of times but was usually in too much of a hurry to check it out. Today however was her day to treat her self and she was going to explore. She wasn't sure what she was expecting but this place was a treasure that she was certain that others in the orchestra just wouldn't get.

It had been years since she had read a comic book but back in the day Madi had, had a collection of X-men Comics that most collectors would have been envious of. She couldn't help but wonder what all her old friends were up to now.

Jay smiled at her from where he sat behind the counter of the little island in the middle of the shop where the register was. "Help you with anything, Miss?"

Smiling back, Madi just shrugged. "Not sure really. It's been years since I've been comic book shopping. Just dipping my toe back in so to speak. Have any suggestions?"

At least comics would be a nice distraction from work and easy to slip into her case.

"That depends, do you prefer Marvel or DC? Is there a specific topic you want to see or avoid?" Jay thought for a moment, "Fables is a fairly good series, so are the Sandman comics."
