Hesitantly, Kudzu approached the shop. He wanted to send Peony something as a late Christmas present. He'd been at a loss and wound up sending her just a card and some cash for books. Two weeks late an idea had finally come to him. He'd looked online for a store. With a grimace, he stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it into a can before going inside.

Jay looked up as the door chime (part of the Batman theme song from the 60's show) sounded. He smiled at the man, "Welcome to Oddball 42. Help you with anything?"

"Hi...huh. Yeah." He shoved his hands in his pockets. "My friend, she loves those Sandman comics and I was wondering if you any..uh..model... figurine things?"

"For the Sandman series? We've got Dream and the rest of Endless as well as some of the supporting characters. Did you want figurines specifically? Because we have a set of bookends with Dream and Death." Jay asked, curious. "Most of what we have is in the glass display cases here and here." He pointed to the cases that held the DC/Vertigo merchandise.

"No idea." He frowned. "I know she likes Death. That's the one with the ankh thing right?"

"Yes. Death is the cute one with the ankh." Jay motioned the man over to the case with the figurines. "We have this style and then this style. Do you want to see them up closer?"

"The smaller one is good. She doesn't have a lot of room." He'd only seen pictures of her cramped dorm room, but he could imagine there wasn't much space left after her books had been jammed in every free corner.

"Okay, that'll be sixteen dollars plus tax," Jay said with a smile. "Do you want a gift receipt or the special gift wrapping?" It was a good choice, the smaller one was his favorite out of the Death figurines.

"Uh..yeah, wrapping would be good." He smiled sheepishly. "I always make a mess of it."

Jay grinned, "Yeah I know that feeling. "S why I have these." He pulled out a small back with the shop logo on it and some crepe paper. The figurine went in a white box to protect it and then that went inside the bag, wrapped in more crepe paper. "Wrapping's free, by the way. How did you want to pay? Cash, Card, or Check?"

"Cash, thanks." He pulled out his money clip and peeled off a twenty. "Thanks for your help. If I had to figure this out on my own, I'd probably still be standing here."

Jay nodded, and handed the man back his bag and the change. "It's what I'm here for. " He handed the man a business card. "I'm Jay."

"Thanks. I'm Kudzu." He took the card from him. "Cool store."

"You're welcome. And thank you. The store's mine and I try to make it a cool place." Jay smiled, "I hope your friend enjoys the gift."

"She will. She's crazy about this stuff. I stopped with Batman comics." He hazarded a smile back.

Jay nodded, "We've got a bunch of Batman stuff here if you're ever interested. I even have the old original series on DVD."
