Damien had come to treasure these moments in the morning when he'd wake up before Soli. He'd stay in bed with her for a little while and watch her sleep, and really, there wasn't anything weird about that. She was incredibly beautiful, and after almost two weeks of waking up beside her, Damien was beginning to realize that this was what he wanted. He wanted to wake up beside her every morning.
Damien really wasn't in the habit of lying to himself, which was why he had to admit to himself that he was falling in love with Soli, and he wouldn't want to change that fact even if he could. Having her living with him, even if they weren't using that terminology, had truly opened his eyes to what he'd been unwilling to admit to himself for a while now. They'd settled into a routine of sorts over the past couple of weeks. During the day, he spent a lot of time in his workshop, and she often joined him there, watching and talking, and he'd even let her set up an area to paint in the workshop, something he really enjoyed watching her do.
At night, there was talking and cuddling, movie watching and sex, whatever they felt like doing, if they felt like doing anything at all. And there was something to be said for falling asleep with her in his arms knowing that when the morning came, he would have this moment and that she wouldn't be rushing to leave to avoid anyone thinking there was more going on than sex. Because there was more than sex going on, and he truly hadn't expected to want this so much at this point in his life. But he'd always known that when the right person came along, he would know it and that would be it for him.
Now it was just a matter of hoping that someday Soli would want the same thing. He wasn't going to push her - he knew Soli, and pushing for the kind of forever he wanted would only end up pushing her away.
Damien's fingers stilled where they were playing with the ends of her hair as a thought struck him. He wanted to do something for her today. He loved surprising her, and right now he wanted to show his feelings for her even if he was sure she wasn't ready to hear them. He slid out of bed quietly, and a glance at the clock told him that she would sleep for at least another hour if she weren't interrupted, which would give him plenty of time to work out this surprise.
It didn't take an hour, and he was lucky that he'd had everything he'd needed. So, he wasn't the greatest cook on the planet, but he didn't think he was half bad - with breakfast foods, anyway. He'd had to run downstairs to his store when he'd realized he didn't have any trays in his apartment to bring the food to her on, but he was lucky in that he'd made a set of 'breakfast in bed' trays a couple years ago that had been sitting in storage, had moved into his store, and now were in his apartment.
He balanced two trays, one for each of them, glad that he'd had the foresight to crack the bedroom door open so that all he had to do was nudge it with his foot to open it. The trays weren't exactly light, filled with a full country breakfast and juice. He set her tray down on the little bedside table on her side of the bed before moving around to his side and setting his tray down. Sliding back in the bed, he lay next to her, his fingers trailing lightly over her arm, his head ducking for his lips to follow the trail.
"Good morning, beautiful," he murmured when she started to stir.
