RP: Cashing in a Raincheck

Lucia was staring at him a lot this week. Rico wasn’t sure why he felt so paranoid, but he kept catching her looking at him with this odd expression he hadn’t seen before. There wasn’t really anything different happening, so he was going to chalk it up to the whole teenage girl thing until she started asking about his new friend. Only she said it in this tone of voice that wasn’t natural, which was annoying. Since Friday night, when he’d texted her about stopping by the gallery only to follow-up with another text putting it off, she’d been asking about Brendon. Sure, she usually met any of his friends eventually, but it wasn’t like their tentative friendship was very old.
Tonight, Lucia was staying over at her friend Lauren’s house to work on a Chemistry project, and she’d suggested that it’d be a good time for him to hang out with his new friend, all the while staring at him like he was going to do something worth seeing. It was a good idea, though, since he’d been slightly concerned about Brendon since their talk in the car that led to having a couple of shots at a seedy bar near the gallery. He’d been unable to stop thinking about what Brendon must have gone through as a kid, both with his parents and later on the street before he met Lucas, and he couldn’t help thinking that the kids he left behind must have had it just as rough, if not more so since they stayed and got older and that kind of parental element was never a good thing.
Fortunately, Brendon had agreed to cash in the raincheck to see the gallery show exhibit thing that Lucia had told him about. Rico’d be able to make sure Brendon really was doing okay, and he’d get to hang out with a new friend, so it was a win-win all around. When he arrived at Brendon’s house, he pulled Sally to a stop and looked at the door, giving it a minute to see if Brendon would come out without him having to honk.
