It seemed like everyone was going on vacation at the same time. Her coworkers, her neighbors, even her landlady. Though she knew she'd already be tired from the extra load at work, Mia hadn't been able to refuse when Sasha, who lived in one of the apartments downstairs, had come up to ask if she'd be able to take care of Toby, the family's border collie for a few days. Though Holly and Jane hadn't taken too well to her at first, they'd since settled a bit, and Pewter didn't much care as long as Toby left him alone. And Sasha and the others would be home Saturday.
She still sighed a bit wearily as she dug Toby's leash out, whistling for her. "C'mon, pretty girl. Time to take you outside." It was so sunny, she'd decided on a whim while coming home that she'd take Toby over to Fort Woof for a bit, let her really stretch out her legs. As the collie came bounding over at the promise of going for a walk, Mia slipped the hook into her collar, then bundled her out the door to the car. Putting the window down so Toby could stick her head out, she started the engine, and started out.
There were a lot of people there already, so earlier than Mia had originally planned, she and Toby were heading back out again. Watching her dance with barely-suppressed energy, Mia took pity on her and turned them onto one of the pathways leading through the rest of the park. "All right, girlfriend. You'll have to stay on the lead, but we won't go home just yet."
