Date: March 11, 2011 Characters: Caleb Young, Anyone Else Location: Muse Performing Arts and Film Center (club side) Status: Public Summary: Caleb opens up shop. Completion: Incomplete
The opening for Muse looked like it was a success if it was based on crowd size. By the time he and Dylan had finished dinner and driven over, the parking lot was practically full. They'd had to park pretty far away, which was great news for Caleb. Josh was glad to see the hard work rewarded with a stellar opening night. Of course, the true test would come next weekend, he knew, but he thought the place had such potential that other people would want to come by and hang out.
"Looks like it's a good opening," he told Dylan, leaning closer to be heard over the music. "Want something to drink?"
Dylan nodded. "A beer would be good. What about you?" Dylan grabbed Josh's hand and pulled him toward the bar. Being couple-y in public was still pretty new, but Dylan was starting to get more comfortable. It wasn't like holding hands was a huge deal, anyway.
This week had been good. Really good. After the disaster on Monday night, Dylan calmed down a good deal. Just letting Josh how he really felt, or didn't feel, had helped his nerves and his general well being. Work had been fine, and his classes at Serenity had been well received so far.
"Caleb must be thrilled. I wonder if the movie theater and the stage one are the crowded?" Dylan suspected they were based on the number of cars outside, but it was possible most everyone was in here, too.
"A beer sounds good." Josh didn't drink that often, but he figured a beer was a nice way to celebrate their friend's business opening. He smiled when Dylan took his hand, squeezing it gently as they walked to the bar. This was one of the only times they'd actually been out together since things changed between them, and it was nice to know that Dylan wasn't ashamed or wanting to keep it hidden.
"I bet they are. Probably more so since it's still a little early for the music scene," Josh said. "The movie and play started at specific times, after all. I bet Caleb's happy and still nervous as hell."
"Yeah, probably." Dylan actually kind of loved musicals, so he hoped to make it to see Company even if it was in secret. It was the whole music thing, and drama. He did love drama. His drama class in college had been one of his favorites, after all.
Dylan understood being nervous, it was hard not to. Josh and Caleb both had put most everything on the line to open their businesses, and as often as Dylan told them both they were going to be the most successful health and lifestyle club and multipurpose art and music space around, they were just words. This, though. This was proof. Successful proof.
"Yeah, but this is such a killer idea. Muse and Serenity will be two of the most popular spots in the area in another month. Guaranteed."
Dylan ordered two beers from the bartender, paying in cash. He didn't think they would drink all that much tonight, so starting a tab seemed a bit silly.
Demi grinned, looking at the crowd that amassed on the club side of Muse. She was exhausted but thrilled. The first night of the show had gone splendidly. She was pleased with the turn out and the cast had been amazing. Caleb had said he didn't mind her popping into the club after the production was over.
She'd mentioned the opening to both Jasper and Erica but unfortunately, Erica had had to work. Jasper, however, had said he would try to be there and she was kind of excited to see him again if he showed up. He was fun to be around and she needed the easy flirting after Caleb had shut her down so easily.
She'd have to check in with him before she left, let him know the final head count for opening night for the show if he didn't already have them. She'd have to resist the urge to offer to celebrate together, because he was her Boss and definitely Not Interested.
Jasper had made it a point to make it to the opening of the Muse, not only because Demi had been generous to give him a comped ticket, but because he was hoping to be able to meet up with her again. He'd found himself thinking about her in the past few weeks, but he'd been too busy with school to to do more than email when they had a chance. This past week in particular, she'd sent him a bunch of short, stressed emails about the dress rehearsals, and he was looking forward to making sure she knew that all that stress had paid off.
He looked around the theater after the show, but couldn't find her. He figured he'd go ahead and peek into the club to see if she was there, and if he couldn't find her there, he'd send her a text to see if she was still around. For all he knew, though, she could be backstage helping the cast with something or another.
Jasper's lips curved up in a wide grin when he spotted her not even five feet from him. "Demi!" he called out as he moved through the crowd to her.
Demi slipped through the crowd, wondering if she would get carded if she went to buy a drink. She'd left her driver's license in her purse, locked up in her desk as she hadn't wanted to worry about it backstage and then hadn't felt like running up there after changing out of what she called her Assistant Manager "Do Not Fuck With Me" Outfit into something a little more relaxed. Caleb had said they were going to be strict about it with everyone but she had met the bartender on one of her crazy run arounds, looking for Caleb earlier in the week. It was just a matter if the bartender remembered her or not.
She heard her name and turned, spotting Jasper. "Ohmigod!" she exclaimed, sliding around someone and tossing her arms around him in a quick hug. "You made it! Hi!" She let go and moved back, feeling her face flush. Ooooh yeah. Maybe she didn't need that drink after all, with how high she was on post-performance endorphins that she was randomly hugging people.
Jasper was grinning as he reached, but he nearly stumbled back when he was suddenly filled with warm, soft female. He hugged her back, secretly pleased that she felt comfortable enough to give him spontaneous hugs.
"Of course I did," he said. "I told you I would. And the show was great. I told you you didn't have to worry about that dress rehearsal drama from the other night."
Charisma had heard about the opening of The Muse and was impressed with the multifunctional concept. She was very interested in seeing it in action, but it was too late to buy tickets to the opening showing of Company, and she wasn't interested in seeing a movie tonight, so she decided she would check out the club portion of it.
She came in while the band was taking a break, and she couldn't help the wide grin. The DJ was good, very good. He definitely knew how to work the crowd, and she immediately itched to dance. She moved through the crowd onto the small dance floor, not dancing with anyone in particular, but having a good time anyway.
After a couple songs, she found herself in the mood for a beer. She didn't drink it often, but she wasn't in the mood for liquor. So she moved to the bar, ordering her drink, impressed again with the specials, and leaving a generous tip. After getting her beer, she moved just out of the way of the bar and just looked around. It was a nice place, and the owner had obviously put a lot into making it
Caleb felt better after going outside for a minute. He'd wanted to see if Josh had been right about the parking lot, and also to take in a few gulps of fresh air to calm his nerves. He'd have liked to've puffed on a cigarette or two, but he'd smoked one yesterday in a fit of panic, and he'd long promised himself not to indulge more than two days in a row.
When he went back into the club, the elevated heat inside didn't bug as much, and he was happy to see that people weren't getting bored and leaving in droves yet. He walked over and spoke to the bartender, making sure she knew he was picking up the tab for whatever else Josh and Dylan were drinking. In a good mood, he looked around and smiled at the patron standing near him by the bar. "Enjoying yourself?"
"Not bad at all," Caleb said with a grin. "And I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, since this my place. I'm Caleb, welcome to Muse."
He looked over to the DJ booth, glad she liked him; they'd certainly clashed enough since Caleb had hired him, but he was damned good. "Oh, you won't be disappointed. They should be back up for their second set soon."
Laine hadn’t intended to spend her Friday out, but Kris had called her in the afternoon talking a mile a minute about the club that had just opened, the one he’d been telling her about for weeks and he wanted to go, but not alone, so would Laine come with please. Unable to refuse his desperation she had agreed to go with.
But typical Kris, once they’d gotten through the door he had abandoned her for some hot blond. Not that she cared really; the atmosphere was decent, the DJ didn’t suck, and she had made the effort to look hot tonight so she was going to enjoy herself, company or not.
Scanning the room she spotted the bar and wound her way through the bodies; ordering a mojito and taking up residence at the nearest empty table until she finished her drink.
Caleb was getting more and more comfortable as the night went on; it hadn't taken him long to remember that this was basically his element.
It was busy enough that he was helping out the two servers he had on hand, grabbing a cloth from behind the bar and helping grab empty glasses and things. All part of being boss, he supposed. He passed a table with one occupant and stopped a moment to wipe a glass ring that marred the surface opposite her.
"Sorry about that, didn't catch it before you sat down," he said with a smile for the woman who was drinking alone. "That mojito's pretty good though, huh?"
Laine had been watching the dance floor when a good-looking guy came by to clean the opposite side of the table; She assumed he was staff, and really, if the staff here were all as good-looking as he was, she’d have to put Muse on her list of places to return to.
“No worries, I wasn’t using that side.” She replied when he apologized for not catching a glass ring on the surface, ”Yeah, better than some I’ve had.” She smiled.
"Just some?" Caleb's smile deepened into a grin. "Sounds like a challenge. Can't let you go around talking about my drinks like that." He held out a hand. "I'm Caleb, and I didn't make that mojito, but my club, my responsibility."
Muse looked amazing. Ty was so happy that it seemed to be crowded and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Caleb deserved for it to go well, since he'd put a lot of work into the place. Alex had managed to get a couple of hours off from the Abbey so he could come with Ty, which was nice. The test results had all come back clear, which meant there wasn't anything physically wrong with him.
That was worth celebrating, even if it meant the impotence was probably caused by something in his head, psychologically and all. Ty knew that he'd now be even more anxious about it, since the mind was so weird and confusing that there couldn't be just a simple fix. He didn't really know what they'd need to do next.
But he'd worry about that later. Right now, they had a little free time, the music was good, there was dancing, and he'd even seen one or two of his photos hanging on the wall, which was pretty damn amazing. He turned to Alex and smiled. "You want something to drink? I know you're going back to work after, but maybe one wouldn't
Alex couldn't take the entire evening, but he promised Ty he'd join him for an hour or so at the grand opening. He wrapped an arm around Ty, leaning in to talk directly into his ear. "One's fine. Just had dinner, and can pop a breath mint." He gave him a squeeze.
He looked around. "Looks great. Your friend's got a good business on his hands."
"Cool. What do you want? I'll brave the crowd at the bar to get us something to drink if you want to go find us somewhere to sit?" Ty looked around and smiled. He probably got the better deal since it looked to be pretty full.
He turned towards Alex and nodded. "Yeah, it looks like Caleb's doing well for opening night. If I see him around, I'd like to introduce y'all. He's the guy Rivhak had, uh, breakfast with, after salsa dancing."
"Surprise me." He leaned in for a kiss. "Will see what I can find. You can always sit on my lap." He winked.
"Oh! This is that guy." Alex grinned. "Well, I'd like to meet a man who can convert Bronzey back from the joys of lady love." He snickered. "Hope he has a good bicycle."
