I've never been able to understand why people like to glom themselves to the poles in Metro cars.
I take that back. Because I know I do it from time to time too. But only when there is plenty of standing room with support for all. *amends*
I've never been able to understand why people like to glom themselves to the poles in Metro cars when the train is packed with people.
Don't they realize that other people would also like to support themselves by holding onto the pole? And that these other people can't hold onto the pole when there's a person wrapped around it? I swear, they get so up close and personal with the pole that all we'd have to do is turn on some pulsing music, flashing lights, let them wrap their leg around the pole and start swinging, and we'd have a pole dancer in our midst.
I bring this up only because it happened to me again this morning, only there were two pole dancers in my way. I was trying to get out of the train and so was someone to the left of one of the pole dancers. Instead of taking a step back to let us pass, she sucked in her tummy in the vain hope that she'd disappear and pressed herself harder against the pole. A solution that was not a solution. Instead, I stepped on some innocent's toe and started to rock back and forth. I could feel myself falling and I really needed to grab onto the pole, but of course the second pole dancer was there. She was holding the pole with her hands at her stomach so in that split second I had to decide: do I put my fingers on the boobs or her crotch?
I opted for the lower half and tried very hard to just press my fingers against the pole for balance rather than wrapping my hand around the pole. It worked. Just barely. And I managed to exit with some dignity still in tact.
But seriously. In a packed train, is it so hard to stand up straight and hold onto the pole while allowing others to share the pole as well?
