May squeezed his hand, a silent token of affection while he lead her into the Main Café. Her eyes scanning over the room as they entered. A soft smile played across her lips, knowing that maybe they would have a few moments alone. Being alone outside their room was a very rare thing, expecially at dinner time

Bringing her hand up to kiss the backs of her fingers, Dax pressed them to his cheek quickly before bringing her hand back down to the table. She was so, comforting, reassuring, reading his mind and telling him, well things he hadn't been thinking of but that had been in the back of his mind anyhow. She knew him too well, he loved that, he loved her. "Thank you," he got out in a half whisper, giving her fingertips another squeeze before letting her hand go and taking a long drink from the water. He felt too nervous, too upset to eat, but he had to, he needed weight in his stomach.
Their quiet dinner was interrupted rather quickly, as Dax had expected, only, it was simply Ebony, sitting by herself and looking reflective, lost in thought. Hey, forget it. He was just blowing off steam. Her words, along with those of May, had helped instantly, and he was grateful to her for taking the small moment to say something. No one owed Dax anything, he owed them all a lifetime of servitude, so every time they showed him even a modicum of respect

Taking a bite of her dinner, she looked up to see Ebony enter the room. She flashed a smile in her direction before turning back to Dax. She knew how he felt. Lex had blown up at her only hours before this and dragged her dirty laundry to wave in everyone’s face. People could be so thoughtless when they were angry. She knew that Lex would never apologize for what he said to her. Hell, he meant every single word and no amount of good deeds would change his mind about her, but Ryan was different. Ryan would apologize because Ryan was a bigger man than Lex could ever be. It was strange how those two could be best friends when they were so different.
As Dax looked to her, she could see it in his face that he was trying not to see her bruises. That was sweet, but she knew it was a constant reminder of how much he couldn’t protect her from. She sighed in relief that no one else had asked her about them during the day. What would she say? Ah, yeah.. some kid tried to mug me in the Market.. Umm… It was that zapper punk, the

Jay's arrival made Dax swallow his food down hard, he looked like a kicked puppy, and Dax knew that look, he was good at it, and he felt bad for the guy. He liked him, he was one of the only mates Dax really had around here, they'd formed some kind of bond early on, but now he just didn't know what to say. I'm sorry? For what? For letting Ryan ...lose his marbles? Dax's eyes cast down to the table top and he blushed, sighing inwardly at how Ryan was right, he was nothing more than a Chosen boy, useless. He'd failed a friend, something he would have been ashamed of had they both been Vultures, now wasn't any different.
"What? Plans?" Dax looked confused, he had plans? Was more planned for the night? No..no she was just asking a simple question. Chill out dude, he chided inwardly, "No plans, just, dinner, I'd offer to take you out to a movie, but we don't do that anymore," he halfway joked. There were some video tapes downstairs he knew, things the kids liked to watch, informative things, and a couple of old b movie type things, but

The main cafe was largely empty, much to Ebony's relief. With a plate of potatoes piled onto her plate, Ebony took a seat by herself, not wanting to interrupt the conversation going on between Dax and May. The poor guy looked so...down. Dax might be big but it didn't take much to see that other's opinions really mattered to him. What Ryan had said had to have stung...letting everyone who didn't know about his past with the Chosen find out that way must have been traumatizing for all involved, Dax especially. One fork full of what had to be Alice's superior cooking vanished after the next as she remained lost in thought. The look of rage on Ryan's face refused to leave her mind, not only because such anger had been directed at the man she loved but because for a second after she'd put her hand on his arm, it had been directed at her. If at all possible, he had looked even angrier. She had always thought of Ryan as protective, good natured, loyal...even if he wasn't all that bright. Seeing him on the brink of loosing all

Stopping just before the entrance to the Extra Cafe, Jay took a deep breath, then let it out with a sigh. He'd just grab a plate, find Ebony, and eat. If he could avoid conversation with anyone else he'd be fine. "Walk fast, avoid eye contact, and look like you're on the way to somewhere important, that's the way to keep people from bothering you," he thought to himself. Taking off at a brisk pace, Jay entered the cafe. Grabbing a plate, he piled on whatever caught his eye, then he filled a glass and headed into the Main Cafe

It wasn't until Jay was literally right in front of her did Ebony even notice someone else had walked in the room. She'd been a thousand miles away, mulling over the whole incident with Ryan and debating whether or not she should have words with him later. Part of her really did want to just leave it up to Salene to handle....but would she? The more she thought about it, the more she wasn't sure if she was willing to take that kind of a risk. Besides...if she did try to set Ryan straight...really, what was the worst he could do? The look in his eyes when she'd touched his arm flashed once more through her mind producing a queasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. He could smash her into a piece of pulp is what he could do. Ugh, she was not looking forward to this, but her mind was already made up. This was something that was just too important to leave up to Salene to fix

Glad that Ebony could read him so well that she knew not to start a discussion right now, Jay continued eating. It did make him feel a little better when Ebony placed her hand on his thigh. It was a sweet, quiet way to connect without the need for words. There was a gentle side to Ebony that not everyone got to see. Sure, she'd done a lot of things to make herself a place in the world, things that could be seen as devious. But somewhere underneath all of that Jay could see the frightened little girl who just wanted someone to love her and take care of her. He took a deep breath and relaxed a little, then took a big spoonful of stew with a chunk of potato. This stew was rather good, although this type of dish always made him miss having meat.
Suddenly Ebony's hand wasn't just comforting him any longer, and Jay gasped with shock. Some of the stew went down the wrong way and he started coughing and sputtering. How could she do that in a public room? Right at that moment Tai-San decided to join them, furthering Jay's discomfit that Ebony

Coming to a stop in the doorway of the Main Cafe after leaving the Extra Cafe, Tai-San paused and examined the room. One end of the table, on the other side, Dax and May were cozied up and looking all lovey dovey, and on the closer side Ebony and Jay were sitting there looking quite, well Tai-San couldn't blame Jay for the way he looked right now. Taking a seat across from Ebony, Tai-San stared down into her food, thinking over what had just happened in the other room

Ved and Cloe had been last up the stairs and to the Cafe, it had taken him a minute to get over being so angry at how Ryan had reacted, treated Jay. He'd been so mad, so seething with anger, it had taken Cloe a few minutes to calm him down. As they found themselves standing in the back of the line for food, Ved found the anger leaking out of him. He was mad at how Jay had been treated, but mostly he was upset with it being over him being a Techno. Did all of the Tribe feel this way? Why did they ask them to join if they hated them for who they were? Ved knew they weren't without faults, that some of them had their own histories, bad marks on their pasts. How dare one of them hold another at fault for their past

Cloe simply followed Ved. She felt bad for him, and Jay, but she knew how much bad Ryan probably felt right now. He had insulted Jay and ruined Amber and Bray's wedding. She just sighed as they climbed up the stairs and into the main cafe.
She took the plate from Ved and gave him a smile. "Thank you." She watched him. He looked so angry, no emotion at all. She frowned at him and moved to sit down to the table. She handed him a fork and watched him dig into his food, almost trying to not talk. "Look, I know you're angry. But understand about Ryan. His kids were taken and he's just angry. And he'll apologize. For what it's worth, I'm proud of you for standing up for Jay... only a real brother would do that." She gave him a smile and took a bite of her food. She was worried about Ved. Luckily Ryan never would know about how the Technos took her and how they had hurt her. Which reminded her, she really wanted to sit down and talk with Salene.
