Taking a bite of her dinner, she looked up to see Ebony enter the room. She flashed a smile in her direction before turning back to Dax. She knew how he felt. Lex had blown up at her only hours before this and dragged her dirty laundry to wave in everyone’s face. People could be so thoughtless when they were angry. She knew that Lex would never apologize for what he said to her. Hell, he meant every single word and no amount of good deeds would change his mind about her, but Ryan was different. Ryan would apologize because Ryan was a bigger man than Lex could ever be. It was strange how those two could be best friends when they were so different.
As Dax looked to her, she could see it in his face that he was trying not to see her bruises. That was sweet, but she knew it was a constant reminder of how much he couldn’t protect her from. She sighed in relief that no one else had asked her about them during the day. What would she say? Ah, yeah.. some kid tried to mug me in the Market.. Umm… It was that zapper punk, the murderer.” She shook her at the thoughts. There was no telling who already knew, Lex had a very big mouth.
Her eyes shifted from Dax to Jay as he entered the room. She was worried at first, as she had seen Jay angry before, but he looked calmer. Flashing a smile to him, she went back to her dinner, shoveling another fork-load into her mouth. Letting her attention drift back to Dax, she picked at her food. “So what are your plans for this evening?”
Jay's arrival made Dax swallow his food down hard, he looked like a kicked puppy, and Dax knew that look, he was good at it, and he felt bad for the guy. He liked him, he was one of the only mates Dax really had around here, they'd formed some kind of bond early on, but now he just didn't know what to say. I'm sorry? For what? For letting Ryan ...lose his marbles? Dax's eyes cast down to the table top and he blushed, sighing inwardly at how Ryan was right, he was nothing more than a Chosen boy, useless. He'd failed a friend, something he would have been ashamed of had they both been Vultures, now wasn't any different.
"What? Plans?" Dax looked confused, he had plans? Was more planned for the night? No..no she was just asking a simple question. Chill out dude, he chided inwardly, "No plans, just, dinner, I'd offer to take you out to a movie, but we don't do that anymore," he halfway joked. There were some video tapes downstairs he knew, things the kids liked to watch, informative things, and a couple of old b movie type things, but nothing worth watching really. "Why? What'd you have in mind?" Maybe May could take his mind off of everything, anything at all that she was up for. Damn, please don't let her say she's going back out tonight. I wonder if she'd let me go with her, his head tilted to the side, "Do you need to...go out somewhere?"
When May glanced from Jay back to Dax she couldn’t meet his eyes because he was looking down at this half-eaten plate of food. His cheeks showed the flush of embarrassment, and he had sighed. Forcing a smile, she tried to understand what he was thinking. He couldn’t be thinking that he had failed Jay in some way by Ryan blowing up at them both. No one knew that he was going to do that. Ryan wasn’t usually a “loose cannon.” Her hand slide across the table to rest on Dax’s free one. A light gesture that he would hopefully see as comforting.
Her eye narrowed at his confusion and her own showed the confusion to match his. What? … That isn’t the normal way someone answers a question. Did he have some other plans that I don’t know of? But he regained himself a little, putting her at some ease. She laughed slightly at his joke. It was a sweet thing to say, but she had already seen all that the Mall had to offer in the way of movies and none of it interested her. Shrugging at his questions, she shook her head. “Nope, not really. I just didn’t want to crash any of your plans, and I am sure that I don’t need to go out anywhere tonight.” For a moment, she paused then a playful smile played across her lips. “I do believe that I am at your mercy for the night.” She laughed softly, winking at him.
Dax was befuddled, he didn't know how to answer that without turning on the charm, and at the moment, he didn't really feel charming. However, her hand was on his, her lip had that little curl to it, the sparkle in her eye was dancing and making him forget everything. She knew him so well, she could simply make him drop his fork and mumble like an idiot. Which is exactly what he did. His fork fell to his plate with a bit of a clatter and he fumbled to catch it again, "I oh, I yeah, um, see, no I don't," he got out before catching the fork and setting it down gently.
"I have no plans, only maybe now I do," his right eyebrow hitched slightly, a playfil grin of his own formed on his lips, and he leaned in closer to her, talking softly so only she could hear. "My night is wide open, I think, getting away from everything and being completely alone with you would be my top choice. Of course, if you have other ideas, I'm game," and like that it was all forgotten. His mind was elsewhere, lost in a place with May that was simply too naughty for words.
He wouldn't be disappointed, of course, if she chose something tame like, board games, or just cuddling, but yeah, he was a devious boy now, and everything he could possibly think of only made his smile grow more. Dax was simply glad to have May all to himself for the night, once more, and after the last few nights they'd shared together, fighting, so much fighting, and making up, that was always fun, he just wanted to give her everything she wanted without complaint. Time spent with May would be time well spent, that was his motto.
May could help but laugh softly at this fumbling. It was nice to know that she had that effect on someone, and it wasn’t in a fearful way. As the playful smile on her lips matched his, she instantly leaned in closer as he did. Their faces mere inches from each other. For a moment, she thought about Jay and Ebony and how this could look. She didn’t want to make them feel alienated. His words made her smile turn into a smirk. The words he spoke brought exciting images and memories to both of her mind and she couldn’t help but be happy that she had taken that look of pain from his eyes and turned it into love with a hint of lust.
She leaned in closer until their noses touched, leaving their lips but a few sweet millimeters from each other. His breath was hot and sweet on her lips. For a few moments, she left them like this, taking this time to loose herself in his eyes. It was like no one else existed in her mind, and she didn’t care who saw them. Her hand slide from his hand, trailing up the cloth of his dress shirt. He did look so handsome all dressed up. Before she had even thought about it, her hand was at the base of his neck, toying with his hair. As her hand touched the velvety texture of his hair, her lips moved to close the minimal distance between them. Her mouth opened ever so slightly to release a warm breath across his lips. In that final instant before their lips would touch, she pulled back, but only enough for her tongue to lick across his lips instead of her lips.
She grinned at him, pulling completely away from him. Her hand began to drop from his neck. “I think we should finish dinner before we get to dessert.” She laughed the kind of laugh that a seductress would express after she brought you to the brink of pleasure then left you hanging. Of course she knew that this could be cruel, but the wanting she had been feeling for him was turning in to a need and that was much better than any make-up sex could offer.
The smile that was planted on his lips as she leaned in closer, touching her nose to his, her eyes locked onto his, he felt as if he could see every star in the universe in those eyes. Everything that had ever meant anything to Dax was now found in the deep expanse unfurled before him in her gaze. His gut twisted with this realization, and he leaned towards her, barely breathing as she moved away from him slightly. Her fingers trailed up and into his hair and he felt the tingle of anticipation move through him, from the base of his skull, down his neck, down his back, spreading out in excited goosebumps across his arms and chest.
He held so still, it was like being afraid of scaring off the hummingbird that was gracing him with her presence. Her open mouth sent more chills through him, a warm heat spreading as her breath hit him, as if she was blowing air right into his very soul. He moved closer to her, taking his chance to take the kiss she was taunting him with, but he was too slow. She licked his lower lip and he shivered, closing his eyes and swallowing hard, when he came back from the place she'd just taken him to, she was gone, sitting back in her chair.
Licking his own lips, Dax had a hard time moving the thoughts that clouded his mind so that he could finish his dinner. He sat there, staring at her, blinking, his mouth hanging open a bit before licking his lips again. Taking a deep breath, he smiled then chuckled before leaning in to mumble gently in her ear again, "God I love it when you tease me, and I will have my dessert tonight," he warned before pulling back, a sly grin on his face. Taking a drink from his glass of water, Dax got back to his dinner, as if nothing had happened, his eyes trained on his food only because of all of the thoughts in his mind that kept him from paying attention to anything else going on around him.
May couldn’t help but smirk when he closed his eyes. It was the perfect time to settle back into her chair and act as if nothing had even happened. Her fork was already back in her hand and halfway to her mouth before he reopened them. She would glance at him from the corner of her eyes. It had gotten to him just the way she had hoped it would. Just anything to take that painful look of his face even if it was replaced by pain of having to wait to tease her back. As he leaned in close to her ear, she smiled at the possible things he could say to her. His words make her smirk, but he breath caused her own little shudder. It was a sensual place, the ear. Releasing a playful chuckle, she turned her head to look at him, catching his ear before he pulled back. “ Hmm… I hope so.”
She turned back to her own food, taking another bite and chewing it. It was relieving that no one else had joined them in the café. Well, besides Ebony and Jay but they were quiet and in their own little world. She could understand that. The thoughts that must be going through Jay’s head, she could only imagine. Although, she had found herself in his position more than once. It was never pleasant to be made to feel like an outsider in your own Tribe. She was over-halfway through her dinner, taking a slip of her water before turning her attention back to the darling boy beside her. “So did you need to check in with Sal or Ryan before we get to our thing? I mean, I wouldn’t want you running out on your responsibilities for just little o’me.”
A dark looked passed over his features at the mention of Ryan, but he let it go as she mentioned abandoning his responsibilities for her. The half frown was replaced by a thick smirk, "Nah, I'm not worried about it, it's bed time and bed time," he glanced up as Tai-San entered the room and glared at her food, leaning in closer to May so he could use a softer tone. "Bed time is me and you time, and no one else," he nodded firmly and continued to eat his food.
It was true, he knew he had vowed to protect the Mall Rats, to protect Salene in particular, but one thing he'd come to learn was that she did not appreciate Dax hanging around outside of her room after dinner hours. Besides that, Dax knew that he too needed relaxation time, and there was no better relaxation time than that he spent with May. This thought made his smirk grow just a bit more.
"You're the most important thing to me May," his eyes grew just a bit as he began admitting things, "and nothing is going to stop me from," he cleared his throat and gave her a sideways glance, "dessert." Licking his lips, he put the last forkful of his dinner into his mouth and chewed thoughtfully, his eyebrow hitching up as he anticipated her reaction.
She nodded as he dismissed the idea of checking in with Sal or Ryan. Of course, she knew that of all people in the mall, they understood that bedtime was personal time, the most. With all the children they worried about all day, the Militia and running the city, night-time must be the only real time they get to relax. Her eyes widened as Jay started to choke on his food. For a moment, the though about going over to him, but he seemed to recover fast enough, and from her point of view, Ebony had her hand underneath the table. She smirked at the thought. “You know Jay, you’re supposed to eat your food, not inhale it.” Poking fun at him, hoping that he wouldn’t notice that she noticed what Ebony had been doing.
As Tai-san entered the café, May glanced up at her. Her and Tai-San had never really been friends, but they hadn’t really been enemies either, so May didn’t really have an opinion one way or the other. Although, this bring people back from the dead thing made her think twice about ever going against the Mystic. For a moment her thoughts drifted to Zandra and she frowned. That poor girl. The frown didn’t last long as Dax leaned in close to whisper his next comment. She nodded in agreement. Bed time was theirs.
Flashing a smile at Ved and Cloe as they entered, she turned back to Dax to notice he was looking at her again. His words made her smile at first, but as he continued her smile faded into a smirk. She had to laugh at him, calling her dessert like that, as if she were something he could just eat up. His eyes told her that he could very well be thinking that very thought. Shaking her head, she turned back to her own food, finishing what little was left. “See, I knew you cleaned up well on the outside, but on the inside, you’re still that dirty little boy I love.”
More people were joining the table, and then at the other end an emotional explosion which, Dax couldn't say that was was surprised to see, Ebony was involved in. Strange, the way she talked to Tai-San, and the way she talked back to her, this was not something Dax expected of a Supreme Mother. Of course, he'd never witnessed Trudy, or Tai-San, in the act, he and the Vultures had kept clearly disinterested during the entire ordeal, keeping to themselves and staying relatively safe. It confused him, but it also intrigued him.
Now, Jay was a mate of his, so Dax sided easily with him, Tai-San was a new age fruitcake, and even if he did feel some kind of ingrained devotion to her, he totally saw Jay's point. He hadn't really been paying attention either, and it was easily regained by May and her little comments that made the naughty thoughts come rushing back.
With a gleam in his eye, Dax pushed his chair back and took May's plate, "Be back," he told her simply, taking the plates towards the Extra Cafe. He stopped as Tai-San suddenly stood up and took off, muttering Siva's name. Confusion crossed his face and he looked to Ebony and Jay with a shrug before carrying the plates off to the sink in the extra Cafe.
He was actually on cleaning up the Cafes duty on the Chore rota, and though he'd given it a good twice over before dinner, he knew now he'd have to get up early to pick things up. Or maybe he'd just pick up after breakfast tomorrow, for whoever was scheduled to do it. Yeah, cause right now, Dax was in serious need of some May time.
Heading back from the Extra Cafe, Dax pushed Tai-San's chair back in a bit as he walked past, he could see Tai-San now, on the stairs, just...standing there. What was she doing? Dax sat back down in his chair, but instead of sitting in it like a normal person, he sat sideways, facing May, his arm hugging the back of the chair. "So..." he trailed off, his eyes sparkling with the thoughts of where he'd left off. "What do you want to do ...now?"
May sat there watching the whole scene with Ebony, Jay and Tai San blow up. That little vain in your neck that pops when you are about to rip someone’s throat out was throbbing on Ebony. She caught herself smirking at the thought. She wasn’t best friends with Ebony, but she surely liked her more than Tai San. Tai san always made her feel like the girl thought she was better than everyone else, and with the stunt she pulled last night on Zandra, it seemed she thought she was God as well. She had never been a real spiritual person, but if that nutty lady was God, then she was happy she stayed away from church all those years.
Giving Dax a smile when he grabbed her plate, she turned back to the scene just as Tai San was getting up to leave. Waiting a few moments for her to clean the room, she shook her head. “Don’t let her work up you like that Ebony. You know she just sat there to piss you off. The last thing you need is to snap her neck, although the thought of her shrieking in pain, would be entertaining, you don’t need the rest of the Tribe breathing down your neck anymore than they already do.”
She turned to look at Dax when he sat back down. What a strange way to sit, more personal then most people did. The look in his eyes told her what he wanted her to say, and she wanted to say it, but should she really give in that quickly? Shrugging slightly, she glanced down her chest. “Hmm.. Not sure.. What do you want to do?” Of course, she could have just taken charge of the situation and dragged his butt up the stairs, but she enjoyed being the submissive sometimes too.
The stairs were clearly visibile from where Dax and May were sitting, and so was the angry flash on Ebony's face. Her voice told him she was calm, but angry and calm went well together, that was a trick Charles had taught him quite quickly. Darting his eyes from Ebony to May, Dax lifted his eyebrows in concern, shifting when May asked what he wanted to do. "Uhhmm," he responded, looking back to Jay. To Jay, that meant that Ebony was gone, where'd she go? Leaning to the left a little to look past Ved, he watched her heading for the stairs at a slow jog, a brisk pace, darting his eyes back to May.
He missed it, looking at May instead, but he heard the oofs and the scream and the clatter, and he stood up straight from his chair, turning, looking. Tai-San was out of sight, and Ebony was grasping the railing and then launching herself down the stairs quickly. "I think she's been hurt," he exclaimed, unmoving, not knowing what to do. "Somebody help!! It's Tai-San! She fell! Come on, quick! I need help in here!!" "I better get Patch," he declared, moving around the table and back into the Extra Cafe.
May shook her head when all the noises went down. Of course, they couldn’t just have a quiet evening here in the Mall, no something always happened. She watched as Dax sprang to get Patch, and Jay to run after Ebony. If what happened really happened, she would be needed to vouch for whatever story everyone else told Getting to her feet, she headed out of the café and down to scene below
