He woke to the sound of a knock against a door, eye snapping open.

Not that his nap had been very deep or long to begin with - an hour at most, and even when he was tired sleep never came easy. He was tired - his body felt like it, and only when his gaze instinctively drifted over to the bed, finding a familiar figure laying in it, he remembered why he felt like this. His head began to throb at the realization, the headache hitting him hard; and there he had the dreaded hangover. He acknowledged it with a stifled groan, shifting a little in his seat.

Then came another knock, this time a little louder. Grunting, Jack forced himself out of the comfy armchair and towards the door of his hotel room. Though 'room' was maybe the wrong description, given that it was his hotel for the time being - the security job had come with various benefits, and his client at least did seem to value his services, as well as wanting to make sure his men were comfortable and happy at all times (which seemed to be the truth, mostly, since they'd been unable to find hidden security cameras and bugs). What a fucking fool, Big Boss had thought when he signed the contract, knowing full well that this place would look like a pig pen once they were done with it.

At least they were considerate and professional enough to keep all the equipment in the underground basement which, apparently, had been installed just for business matters like this. Fortunately for his employer, Big Boss didn't ask questions. He also didn't mind using the information he'd acquire during this job as an advantage in another. Intel gathering was a 24/7 job.

Though he was sure even he could afford a little break once in a while. When he opened the door - still clad in what he'd worn the night before, that was, not very much at all - he opened it only a little crack. The room behind him looked a little messy, given his endeavors (patching her up, cleaning her, finding a shirt for her to wear), and besides -

"Boss?" Kaz's expression was hard to read, not least because of his aviators. He was carrying a tray with two plates and other things on it; looked and smelled suspiciously like breakfast. Big Boss squinted at it.

"Huh?"

"Is everything all right? You don't usually eat in the morning, and when you do, it's rarely anything other than eggs and bacon."

Oooohhh.

Now he vaguely remembered. About an hour or so ago he'd asked somebody - didn't even know who it'd been - that somebody prepare him a proper hotel style breakfast. For -

"...For two, no less." He adjusted his glasses while looking down; Big Boss blinked slowly while frowning to himself. The guy he'd given this task must have told Kaz, probably because Kaz was the best cook around here, and of course he'd find this somewhat unusual. "Is there something you didn't tell me?" His tone was mildly accusatory - or at least, that's what it sounded like. Either that or it was jealousy. It was hard to tell.

"I'm just hungry today, that's all," Big Boss replied flatly, but tired all the same. "And I need some coffee."

"Is that so?" Kaz huffed and shifted, apparently sneakily trying to glance into the room, but Big Boss followed suit and blocked his view, then roughly snatched the tray out of his hands.

"Thanks, Kaz. You can get back to work now. I'll join you in a little while."

And with that, he slammed the door shut, heaving a sigh. Kaz really was the last person who needed to know that he had an almost naked woman sleeping in his bed, and then being right - for once - with his assumptions, that even he could not resist at times. He didn't pay attention whether or not Kaz was leaving or even mumbling something to himself like he usually did, just placing the tray down at the table of the sitting area, and, much to his surprise, finding that there were some painkillers next to the coffee pot. Bastard, he thought, but downed two pills with the help of some orange juice anyway.

That's also when he heard a soft meow coming from the direction of his bed, and at first he thought Selina might have woken up, taking her nickname a little too seriously (maybe that night he'd inflicted more damage than he initially thought? Some details were still blurry) - but what he saw was just that tiny white stray cat named Nuke they'd adopted a while ago, curling up next to Selina's figure. A comfy spot.

Jack wondered how he'd gotten in here - probably slipped through the door crack while he'd been talking to Kaz. He shrugged, and said, voice low, "Don't wake her up." Another meow and some purring made up Nuke's response.

Now, as long as she was still resting, he could maybe finally take that shower - have a smoke and some coffee afterwards, ideally. Grabbing some towels and a clean set of clothes, he headed into the adjacent bathroom.
