Akiko stared despairingly at the spinning wheel sitting next to an intimidating pile of straw. How in the world was she supposed to turn that into gold? Who came up with that ridiculous story? Well, whoever did got her stuck in the wicked queen's highest tower, door locked from dusk until dawn ( Read more... )

"Still nothing?" The man asked, entering her tiny home with a grin, a hand raising the small drape that served as the protection from the outside night to enter. Though dressed as a present, it would be hard to mistake the crown prince of the kingdom. Wearing a simple pair of pants, a plain white tunic, he looked cleaner than most peasants - indeed, it was his wear for whenever he wanted to mingle about the general populous.

He had heard from his mother about the woman she had procured - one who could apparently spin gold from straw. He thought it was a farce, all a hoax, so when he had been asked to go check on her progress, he accepted purely on amusement alone. Eyes going wide as he saw this peasant was apparently a very beautiful woman, the crown prince grinned from ear to ear.

Akiko nearly jumped out of her skin at the sudden presence of another person. She straightened up, her own eyes going wide when she saw who it was.

"Y-Your Highness!" Her voice almost squeaked, and she jumped to her feet, knowing what was called for when a peasant crossed paths with a member of the royals. She gave a low curtsy, doing her best not to stare at him straight on.

"I'm afraid Her Majesty was misinformed," she said, hands twisting into her skirts. "I can't do something like that at all."

"Be at ease." He said, waving off her stiff reaction - though the movement of her body from it was quite enjoyable to watch. "I think my mother a fool myself, but she won't listen to anyone. She wanted me to check on your progress, and its as I expected." He said, approaching her little 'work area', and glancing around.

"A shame, a beauty such as you languishing here." He muttered, speaking more to himself than to her.

Akiko couldn't relax just like that with the prince himself in the room. Still, she tried, finally looking up at him, watching him take in her new little home.

"Sometimes the promise of wealth can make people lose their reason," she murmured, pushing a bit of hair behind her ear. "And she isn't treating me, um, unkindly."

Even if there was the threat of beheading should she not complete her task by dawn.

When the door creaked open, there were a pair of guards, pulling what looked to be a young boy bound at the wrists and ankles in thick iron shackles, and what looked to be a makeshift muzzle over his mouth. They barely gave the other woman a glance as they threw the boy in with her. He fell face first to the ground and didn't move, though it was clear he was still breathing.

"Enjoy the company," one guard called as he slammed the door shut.

Akiko gasped at the sight of the body sprawled on the floor in front of her, and she ran forward, crouching down over him. She reached her hands out and touched his back tentatively.

"Hello? Are you all right?"

Duncan couldn't do much in his current state. Strong as he was, he could not break the thick iron binding him. He couldn't even speak, with his jaw forced shut. At the touch, though, he jerked flailing slightly. Of course the look in his eyes made it clear that it wasn't because he harbored any kind of hostility, but rather looked more like a cornered animal, ready to lash out at anything that moved suddenly.

Akiko had to stop herself from jumping back when he flailed, the understanding of his fear dawning on her.

"Hey, it's alright," she said, trying to make her voice soothing. "I'm not gonna hurt you."

She wouldn't have to be waiting long. While his name could be known, his face would not; Minato had been doing the 'wandering hero' thing for at least a year now, and as soon as he'd heard the rumour of a beautiful girl trapped up in a tower...well, he knew just what he had to do. There were already rips in his tunic and blood on his sword when he delivered a calculated kick to her tower door, sending the thing swinging to hit the wall with a mighty crash.

The violence of the maneuver would be quite at odds with the skinny youth strolling on in, pushing some of his thick blue hair from his face, gaze turning around the room until it alighted on her. His eyes widened the tiniest bit- the rumours of her beauty had not been exaggerated.

"Miss?" he said, simply, voice accented with something from a faraway land. "Here to rescue you."

A noise like a squeak escaped her as the door suddenly slammed open, and she stared wide eyed at the youth that wandered in.

"Ah, what? You're here to...are you hurt?" she asked, noticing the blood on his sword and the rips in his clothing.

"I'm fine."

...he said, while bleeding. Minato does seem to be gripping onto his sword arm with his other on the approach, stopping in front of Akiko. The boy glanced around a bit before taking up a fold of cloth from a nearly table, wiping his sword clean before returning it to its sheath with a metallic click.

Minato extended his hand to her now, a gesture of placation; she could be safe with him, it seemed to promise. Her escape was at hand.

"We need to go."

The hesitation was brief as she took in the sight of a mere boy promising her freedom from this death sentence. Then she nodded, reaching out and taking his hand.

"I'm ready."

Akiko need not worry for very long now! Soon enough a large cloud of smoke drifts into the room (some...magical..way) and in a coughing fit the smoke disperses to see a man with wings on his back and a cigarette in his hand.

"Hey, goddammit." He nods to get Akiko's attention (if he somehow hadn't by now) and points to his cigarette with his free hand. "Y'ready t'make a wish? I'm yer Fairy Godfather."

At first, Akiko thought there was a fire nearby, and she jumped to her feet, pressing her back to the wall in fear.

And then the man appeared, and she had a new reason to push back against the wall.

"Y-You're my...what?"

"Shit woman, I gotta repeat it?" Cid takes a drag from his cigarette as he steps closer one or two steps, the Godfairy or whatever he was clad in but a simple loincloth!

"Fairy..Fucking...Godfather."

"I...I see. I didn't know I had one."

Akiko stared at the winged man in a loincloth, biting her lip to stop her from bursting out into laughter.
