The party was going strong. The band had taken a short break and had come back stronger than ever. The drinks were flowing, the dancing on the makeshift dance floor was only one of many 'hot spots' of the area, the second stop of a new couple ( Read more... )

Carson turned and smiled at the familiar figure, "Jennifer, luv, good to see ye." The man had to laugh at her comment though, "Ach no lass, no one wants to see me out on the dance floor... especially not to some of this music."

Carson could handle the slow dances, but anythng beyond that... well it's a bit out of his league, "And once I have a few beers, well no one's feet would be safe from me. They wouldna want to pay me in dances as they'd likely end up in the infirmary tomorrow with broken toes."

"'First do no harm', right?" Jennifer laughed as she remained standing, an easy smile playing on her face. "They'd accuse you of drumming up your own business on a slow night."

She shook her head soon after, dismissing the idea before she leaned in, her words taking a light, conspiratorial tone. "It's okay. I'm really bad at dancing, too.. but I'm always game to try." The doctor stood, her head canting slightly, assuming that perhaps Carson would actually 'get it'... but she wasn't all that sure that subtle would work.

Maybe taking a page from Teyla's playbook... Ah... no. Not what she'd heard, anyway, though Teyla and Darien out there did look cute. He had that 'deer in the headlights' look to him, but she wasn't sure if it was enough to bolt.

Sadly for Jennifer, Carson is completely clueless. This is the man who didn't really know Cadman was interested until Rodney kissed him. But... let us not dwell on that one. That is one incident from Atlantis Carson would rather forget... the kiss, not the dating Cadman thing.

Carson chuckled softly, "Aye luv, first do no harm. I try and keep t' that and would rather not end up treating a string of broken toes." Carson has always had the ability to laugh at himself, "Besides some o' this lot drum enough business that I dinna have t' go around making more o' my own." Like the young O'Niell for one.

At the mention of dancing Carson blinks at Jennifer a moment, "Ach lass, I'm sorry. I dinna mean t' keep ye from it. Ye don't have t' spend yer time entertaining me. Go cut a rug." Yep, right over his head.

Jennifer shook her head, rolling her eyes, not certain whether to laugh or give Carson a thwack to the head. She suddenly had a new appreciation for Teyla's frustration with all things subtle.

"Carson," Jennifer put special emphasis on his name, the word mixed with bemusement and exasperation, "You really don't get out much, do you? And they say I'm bad.

"I'm asking you," Jennifer pointed a finger at him for emphasis, "To dance with me." She flipped from finger to thumb, pointing the latter at her. "And please don't give me that line about not knowing how to dance. You put your feet together and just sort of let the music," Jennifer bounced in place in a half sway, "Carry you."

With a smile and a cant of her head, she added, "It's either that or I sit here with you and start pointing out all the cute men and asking for your opinion on them."

Pool was fun. It was a great time waster, if one wanted to be alone in a room full of people. Jon prefered fishing, obviously, but a night out with a couple of close friends at the pool tables wasn't a bad way to go.

All he needed to do was to look at his date, and he easily filed that into all things considered. He watched her wander around the table, looking over the the table; each time she looked back at him, he'd casually look away, but not before offering her a quick smile. Nope.. not staring, not at all ( ... )

The feel of Jon's breath on her neck, against her shoulder sent Ami's eyes immediately to half-mast. Involuntarily, her grip on the cue stick tightened so much that she half-dug her nails into the palm of her hand. A fine tremor shook her body and she drew a deep breath, at the last moment forcing her lips closed and breathing out through her nose. It centered her and gave her some semblance of calm, though her heart thudded and blood pounded and her knees temporarily went weak ( ... )

Jon enjoyed that immensely, not having to make any contact, but still have the ability to completely fluster her? He liked the smile, the blush, the momentary hesitation as she tried to gather herself. Perfect.

He took a step back so she could take the shot, resisting the urge to take hold of the end of the pool cue on her back swing. "You hope," she'd said. "I ( ... )

Cassie was at the indoor bar, bouncing her head in time to the music being played outside. She'd found herself a seat, though it wasn't the best location. Those standing and leaning at the bar overshadowed her a little as they ordered (and received) their drinks. A couple of waves passed of heavy 'traffic' before things slowed up again, giving her a little breathing room.

"Mike.. one more.." She put the now empty glass down on the bartop and pushed it towards the bartender. Marie had been the one to pour the other three, and the girl didn't look too impaired, so he nodded and turned to give her a refill ( ... )

Having the beer in his hand made it hard for the marine to hand Cassandra hers, but he didn't need to worry. Cassie picked hers up with a smile, and lifted it to her lips, taking a swallow before setting it down again. She gave him her hand and he veritably pulled her up and out of the seat. A little more oomph than was perhaps needed, and she'd had a little too much to drink, so it set her off-balance a little ( ... )

Alex maneuvered his way into more of the center of the dancing, his hands holding Cassie close. She could feel the warmth of him radiating through, and even if it was a chilly evening, the dancing and the drinking kept her rather warm. The added heat of his body simply made her break into a light sheen. Her eyes were gleaming, both with the fun and drink, and she pressed into the strong, hard muscles ( ... )

The song ended, and another quick-tempoed one followed. For as willing to dance as Cassie was, she was getting tired, and the beer was really going to her head, courtesy of not having a whole lot to eat before she came to the bar with her friends.

Speaking of whom, where did they go?She took a quick look around, though things were a little wobbly. Stopping, she leaned on the muscular marine, "I.. think maybe I should go sit down?" She didn't take another swallow of her beer, but rather, gestured towards a side area. "Get some air?" It was innocent, really... harmless. She figured that they'd take a side spot, sit down on the grass and relax, maybe talk ( ... )

(Okay, why am I doing this again?) Was Daniel's first thought as the group arrived at the mass of people who had descended upon Moe's on this particular Friday night. Sure, he did want to get out and relax, but this was -

"Wow. There really are a lot of people out here tonight," Daniel observed unnecessarily. He nodded and gave a half-wave of greeting to a few familiar faces that saw him. Pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose, he glanced at Jack to his right and wondered when this had become like middle school with the boys - he and Jack - separated from the girls - Sam and Elizabeth. "Beer at the bar, I assume?"

Jack, for his part, had slowed down a little as he came face to face with the crowd that had descended upon Moe's. While no sense of indecision flickered across his face, he did pause, twist around in search of the girls, who had disappeared from his immediate view. He was pretty sure, though, that they were fine and would eventually catch up and find them. If not, Jack knew where they both lived, as it were ( ... )

Daniel followed Jack to the outdoor bar, his gaze following the older man's to the dance floor. People moved out there, bodies flowing and twisting in rhythm - and sometimes not - to the music from the live band. It wasn't Daniel's sort of music, but the band wasn't horrible. It just wasn't his type of music.

He blinked at the sight of two of his archeologists dancing with a pair of men whose faces were familiar but he couldn't place. Dr. Keaton and Dr. Spelling were dressed in less than he'd ever seen them wear and - (I didn't even know that they could dance.) He used the term dance loosely, particularly considering the way Dr. Spelling practically cleaved to her partner.

"Sometimes," Daniel looked away from the dance floor, spotting Carson and Jennifer and offering both a wave a bit further down the bar, "I think it's really better to not see co-workers out in public like this. Especially when they're your direct reports."

Jack twisted around to follow Daniel's gaze, his brows rising, and a low, soft whistle sounded. "And you don't want to go out there and--" His tones were set to the theatrically disbelieving before he turned his back to the dance floor and gestured towards the bar. "C'mon. That's why they have bars in these places. And," he twisted his head back around to look at the two PhDs again, "good to know they are up on current... cultural practices, just in case you're called upon for some trade." They were attractive women, so why not ( ... )
