Away from home...

Every now and then, it's good to get out of the city and away from reality...

Well, that is, if you're going somewhere that isn't your normal reality.

I'm actually out of town to go to some church leadership conference.

And you're asking yourself, "What the hell is Riz doing as a church leader?"

Yes, friends, readers, people who wait on my patiently to update my LJ.  I work w/ teens in my church.  And yes, I have to be their role model.  And for all we know, the lesson for them is not do what I've been doing, and they'll be on the right path.

In the eyes of the adults in the church, I'm probably the single most important influence in these kids' lives.  Sure, I don't live like a saint, or like a Christian should, but I'm damn close to it.

Anyhoo, I like this double-edged kinda life anyway.  I can always throw these people for a loop any day of the week.  But who am I kidding?  The good Lord above knows my actions and he'll do away with me accordingly when it's time for me to leave this earth.

Nevertheless, back on point to being away from home.

Honestly, I hate travelling for hours on end, sitting in the same spot.  I was in a van for more than 13 hours, except for the times all of us in the group had to take bathroom breaks, lunch breaks and pit stops for gas and the car wash.  The driver cranked up the music REAL LOUD...so loud that I had to use my in-ear headphones as ear plugs.  Considering that I didn't really sleep Wednesday night (I left the office at MIDNIGHT), I took frequent power naps to keep myself going.  And now that I'm not in my comfort zone, it just means I won't get a good night's rest in awhile.  Oh well, I'll be running on adrenaline and caffeine.  That's fine.

Besides, for this conference, I'm actually apart from the group for the most part, so I'll have to make a whole bunch of new friends to keep myself company.  That shouldn't be a problem.  It's actually good for me anyway.  And I like the "me" time.

Well, at this rate I'm just rambling.  I better get a few hours in before I workout in the morning.  We all leave for the Waffle House at 7am.  'Til then, someone abduct me and take me away from this conference!
