Turn me on and watch me go.

So, without going into too much detail: I'm about to start applying in earnest for my first post-grad school job. Much as I love the city where I'm living now and would like to stay here, I don't want to limit myself. Essentially my plan is to apply for full-time jobs in my field (which is pretty ubiquitous) anywhere that I think I'd like to live for at least a year, and move wherever I get an offer first.

So, flist: what cool cities should I consider in my job search?

My minimum requirements:
- I need to be able to be out as a queer woman without fearing for my safety or job. Actual potential to date people would be nice.
- There needs to be something to do besides go to bars, which aren't really my scene. Music venues, theater, symphonies, funky restaurants, weird art galleries ... some combination thereof would be good.
- I am a lactose-intolerant slacker vegetarian with a passionate love for fresh food. I can work around my dietary restrictions, but I need to be reasonably able to eat fresh meals that minimize my intake of dairy, meat, and refined carbs. If all foods I can get to have been processed, I won't last long.
- I need the ability to get to natural spaces without herculean efforts.
- Somewhere with a functional public transit system, or where biking =/= death, would be nice.
- I'm not currently authorized to work anywhere outside the U.S., so to consider other countries (which I'd like to!), I need to have some reasonable hope that I'll get a visa if someone wants to offer me a job.

If you've got a minute, recommend me anywhere that fits some or all of these requirements! Openly or secretly awesome places you've lived, places you've visited and always dream of going back to, big, small, whatever. Presence of awesome people a plus. I need new ideas to guide my mad Googling!

planning?, studying hope
