Billy had rarely been the kind of kid who stared about of the classroom window all morning wishing he could get out. Even after joining the Young Avengers, he'd resisted the urge to go day dreaming, saving that for after school, when he could visit any part of the world he wanted. Having that sort of freedom made staying in school easier to bear, ( Read more... )

Strangely enough, the island's sudden, trademark makeover almost makes it easier for Buffy to ignore the date itself, and all the woe it may bring along with it. For the most part, she can't lament being alone today (and she knows she isn't, really, she has people). Given the disastrous results of her last relationship - and just about every single one before that - she's come to accept that being single is not so bad. In fact, compared to what it's like when she's in a relationship, being single is by far the better option ( ... )

"That's what the whole other 364 days of the year are for. If you were watching your figure, of course." He gave Buffy a grin. (And now that he wasn't boggling at the fact that she was the Buffy or he wasn't trying not to get his ass kicked in her Weaponry class, he could actually do that without all the accompanying awkwardness. For the most part, anyway; Billy tended to be awkward more often than not.) "I think this place has done something right, for once."

Munching now on the flower's stem, Buffy can't see any reason to argue, not when a single petal creates an explosion of taste that minutes later has yet to fade. Well done, Tabula Rasa, she thinks, well done indeed.

"Number one way to make sure no one cares your Valentine's Day decorations have nothing to do with Valentine's Day? Make them edible." Edible and delicious, not that it needs mentioning; the entire island seems aware of the fact by now. And her thoughts are otherwise occupied, busy considering whether or not it would be acceptable to lick her fingers now. "The island owed us one, anyway. Or, you know, a thousand. Who's keeping count?"

"Might be somewhere in the hundreds," Billy said. He was all for being repaid for the cruelty of having Teddy ripped away from him after so little time together here. "But we've definitely been overdue, what with a space station trying to kill us all."

"On that note, I'm surprised nothing's poisonous," adds Buffy, and it doesn't take long for her to register the potential danger of her words. Immediately, she tilts her head toward the heavens and shouts, "Surprised and grateful, that is!"

"Same here," Billy said, grinning. He couldn't blame her for the addition; it was hard not to believe there was some sadistic being watching them all the time, putting them through hell. "Although now I'm starting to worry. I've eaten a lot already."

"Maybe tomorrow the falls will flow with Pepto," she jokes, shrugging as if it's no big deal. The thought itself is more than a little worrying - a lot of people have eaten a lot of candy, including herself - but it doesn't seem entirely likely. Why would the island drag them all here for years on end only to kill everyone off now? And surely there are more efficient ways and less elaborate ways to get the job done.

Billy snorted, at the same time knowing he was going to dread the following day. The knowledge still didn't stop him from at least tasting everything in sight. "Well, at least we'll be giving the doctors something to do."

That's certainly one way to look at it, Buffy agrees silently, before tilting her head to gesture in what she thinks is the right direction. "On that note, I hear today, it's all chocolate-covered, all the time. Wanna check it out?"

"Yes," Billy replied enthusiastically. As if there would be any other answer out of his mouth. "This might be my only chance to see a chocolate waterfall."

"Awesome," grins Buffy, at once turning to lead the way towards chocolate-y goodness. "I'd recommend against pulling an Augustus Gloop, though, you never know how it could turn out, especially here."
