"You aren't supposed to be here," says Geoffrey, lying on his back on the beach and lacing his fingers behind his head. This is what a man of leisure is supposed to be able to do, so here he is. He feels it likely, however, that all he's going to end up with is a sunburn ( Read more... )

Charlie was soaking wet when she flopped down next to Geoffrey on the sand; there wasn't enough towel for both of them. She'd been swimming hard enough that she was breathless and smiling and she just lay there for a second, eyes closed, face tilted up to the sun.

"Hello, handsome," she said, belatedy, though she was pretty sure that Geoffrey had already worked out that she was there. "How's it goin'?"

"We're good," says Geoffrey, turning his head to give her a smile.

"We're good?" says Oliver. "I'm forgotten."

"Decided swimming was a little safer than running? I'm not sure about that. At least there are no land sharks."

"Good," said Charlie, with a decisive nod of her chin. "That's good. You usin' the royal we now, huh?"

She wrinkled her nose at him, halfway between a smile and a look of dissaproval.

"I ain't gonna get eaten by a shark. An' don't you go gettin' Duck ideas, or he'll be bannin' me from the water."

"I promise never to mention the S-word to Duck," vows Geoffrey, still watching Oliver out of the corner of his eye. "He might ban me from the water, too. Not that I spend all that much time in there to begin with."

If there's one thing Duck would have requested of Geoffrey for an after-work reward, it'd be a thing too scandalous to put in writing, and a thing not unlike the scene he's standing before now. He doesn't know why he decided on a dip in the ocean than a dip in the waterfall pool, but Duck won't be complaining.

"It my lucky day or something?" he asks, scratching his neck.

Geoffrey grins up at him, finding it pretty easy to ignore Oliver's faintly outraged and no longer pacing form. "I'm trying out a new lifestyle this week," he says. "Beach bum. What do you think?"

Duck grins and comes a few steps closer, just like he hasn't already got the image memorized forwards and back. "I like the dress code."

"As if you don't get to see this every day," says Geoffrey. Though admittedly, not often outdoors and in the sunshine. "I should probably feel guilty about doing nothing this week. But I don't."

Kate actually stops short on her trek towards the water when she sees Geoffrey...lounging on the beach...and basically naked as far as he's concerned. She thinks about teasing him. God knows he's done his fair share of it, but in the end it's just too strange and at least she won't be the only one in a bathing suit.

"Hi Geoffrey," she says, interrupting what hopefully is a conversation with Oliver and not sunstroke.

Geoffrey opens his eyes and gives her a wide smile. "Hey Kate," he says, not going quite so far as to remove either of his hands from the back of his head to give her a wave, or even to shade his eyes from the sun. Instead he ends up squinting. "Heading out for a swim?"

"Something like that," she says, grinning down as she pushes her oversized sunglasses up to squint right back. "Mind if I sit down?" she asks, gesturing with her towel.

"Feel free," he says, trying not to smirk as Oliver has to get out of her way. "I'm just out here getting a tan." He can imagine the skeptical look at that, if not from her then from the other ninety-nine percent of his aquaintences. "No, really. That's what I'm doing."

"Well, you're kinda naked, aren't you?" Jack asks, flopping down in the sand beside Geoffrey uninvited, but it's not like Duck's there, so he figures it's okay. If Duck had been there, he would've assumed there was to be some making out going on and he probably would've asked before sitting down. But not this time.

"Does Duck know his husband is exposing himself like this?" he asks with a grin. "To anyone who could walk by?"

"Did Duck suddenly become the boss of me?" says Geoffrey, grinning at him while Oliver nods his head firmly in the background. "I'm entitled to my share of the sunshine, just like anybody."

"Yep," Jack replies, stretching out in the sand, grinning at Geoffrey in return. "When you married him, he became your boss, one hundred percent. Didn't you realize that was what happened when you got married?"

"Apparently we forgot that part in our vows." Though, to be fair, Geoffrey isn't sure he remembers much of the vows at all. "I'm pretty sure if he was here he'd be telling me it's good to be naked."
