The island sucked even more than usual. Everyone was still preoccupied with the hurricane, but Regina thought it was about time to move on. It happened and it's over. End of story ( Read more... )

Yuri was feeling rather depressed. It wasn't the storm itself but that she was so useless and she just wasn't happy about that. Kei could rebuild and she could help a little bit, but Chris knew more about it and so perhaps there was something more productive. Maybe work in the kitchen.

That was scary to think about, especially with so many people in the compound now. Meals weren't for fifty, more like one hundred or more people if you could manage it. But... once a week was doable for a Trouble Consultant, surely? She was thinking about it.

Okay... someone she didn't know on the beach. Pretty much knew what she was about, though.

"Avocados would work, too--because of all the protein," she said knowledgeably. "They're good for skin as well and if you can take a little bit of sugar and mix it with water into a paste it's a great exfoliant."

Oh yeah.

Regina didn't feel like talking to people, not with mangoes in her hair, but she wasn't going to turn away hair & skin advice. "Really? Do you know where I could get some?" she asked.

"They're all over the place," she said. "They're a bit harder to find than the mangoes because they're darker. But there are avocado trees in a few places--by the compound there are some."

She'd picked her own for the sashimi trays.

"And you'll probably want to use fresh water to wash that out--make your hair softer." Seawater did nasty things to hair if you didn't watch it closely. "There's the waterfall by the caves or the other spring 'cause I can't imagine you'll want to walk around like that. Or use seawater now but plan for the future."

Nobody ever did just one treatment or facial. No way.

"Okay." She would probably go find the avocados after she was finished with her hair. "And, like, I totally wasn't planning on going in the ocean to wash this off," she said, dryly. Okay, so maybe she had, but she wasn't going to admit that. She didn't need anymore advice from someone who had been stupid enough to get blue highlights.

Whatever Chase had said about Veronica's hair still being gorgeous after all these months, it had nothing to do with squashed mangoes. She'd always just been low maintenance. So it didn't occur to her, on spotting the blonde relaxing on the sand, that this was part of a beauty regimen.

"Yikes. Did they fall on you?" she asked, mild sympathy on her face. The girl didn't look upset, though, and Veronica was pretty sure that, had mangoes fallen on her head, she would have been at least irritated.

Regina decided she would be nice to whoever this was for now, since she was pretty, but kind of dumb. DUH, the mangoes have a purpose!

"Um, no," she laughed. "They're supposed to replenish the nutrients in my hair," she said.

"Ah." Veronica's lips narrowed into a line as she tried not to laugh. I guess people have to take care of themselves somehow, but this is the first I've seen anyone decide that the best way would be to turn into a fruit salad.

This girl would have been an 09er back in Neptune. It was evident at second glance, and the realization almost made Veronica wave goodbye and leave. "There was an ad on the bulletin board a couple months ago - I don't know if it's still up - someone was making all kinds of beauty products. Hair and skin and all that."

"Oh, that's awesome!" So, someone else did care about these things, which was a comforting thought. "Your hair is really nice, by the way," Regina said, flashing a smile. It was probably best to try to friend all of the other pretty blonds on the island.

Sansa found if she avoided her family, which was practically standard practise for her at this stage, she did not feel as bad about not worrying about Bran. So she was wandering the beach when she came across the girl with a head full of mango. Sansa was not entirely unaware that fruit could be used for beauty purposes, in Westeros, people freshened their breath with lemon water and used citrus oils in perfumes. She had however never seen someone just put the fruit directly on to their hair. She was quite curious as to the effect that would have. "Are mango's good for your hair?" she asked intrigued.

"Yeah, this guy on the island told me about it," Regina said, trying to be friendly. She always made an effort to be nice to the pretty ones. "You can try some if you want. I have extra."

Sansa dropped to the sand beside the girl. "If you would not mind," she said with a smile. Sansa already nice hair, despite the sun and sand and salt in the air from the sea. The idea of spending time fussing over hair was a welcome one however, she hadn't had anyone to do that with since they had taken Jeyne Poole away. "I'm Sansa."

Sansa: the one that Regina was supposed to become friends with for Cersei. She would make it a point to turn on the charm.

"I'm Regina, and, here," she said, while handing Sansa a couple of mangoes. "All you have to do is grind them up. I used a couple of stray rocks. Apparently if you put it right on your hair, it's suppose to, like, moisturize. You already have nice hair, though," she smiled.

Jim had seen a lot of weird things, but a girl with mangoes all over her was not one of her.

"Um, what - what are you doing?" he asked, raising a brow.

Ohhhh, cute boy! It kind of sucked that he had approached her when she had mango all up in her hair, but she would make the best of it. "I'm, like, conditioning my hair. Apparently mango is supposed to be really good for that," she smiled. "Oh, I'm Regina, by the way."

It seemed a bit weird to wear fruit in your hair, but he took her word for it that it was good for it. It was the kind of thing his old girlfriend probably would have done.

"Oh. Wow, I didn't know that," he admitted, scratching the back of his neck thoughtfully. "I'm Jim. Nice to meet you. Have you been on the island long?"

"Yeah, I didn't either," Regina said, "but this weird guy, Zoolander, told me about it. And, I haven't been on the island very long. I think it's been around three weeks."

"Regina, something about you looks different."

For reasons that didn't bear exploring at this juncture, Alan had taken to wandering the beach. He, too, looked different, if one had an eye for such things. His face was drawn, his movements more languid. He looked as though he hadn't had his morning coffee. Which he hadn't.

"It isn't your ass," he said musingly.

"Oh, shut up," Regina said, glaring in his direction. "For your information, these mangoes are in my hair because I actually care about the way I look, unlike you. You might look even worse than the first time I saw you, like you've been hit by a ton of bricks or something."

"Yes, well, thankfully I managed to avoid the bus."

The remark stung just a bit. Alan prided himself on a certain degree of diligence when it came to his appearance.

He took a seat in the sand. "You look as though you've suffered a pelting at the hands of a firm but fair audience."

"Ugh, whatever. I'm not the one who has to suffer a 'pelting' or whatever from my own wife," she snapped. "Yeah, I know all about it."
