The island sucked even more than usual. Everyone was still preoccupied with the hurricane, but Regina thought it was about time to move on. It happened and it's over. End of story

Whatever Chase had said about Veronica's hair still being gorgeous after all these months, it had nothing to do with squashed mangoes. She'd always just been low maintenance. So it didn't occur to her, on spotting the blonde relaxing on the sand, that this was part of a beauty regimen.
"Yikes. Did they fall on you?" she asked, mild sympathy on her face. The girl didn't look upset, though, and Veronica was pretty sure that, had mangoes fallen on her head, she would have been at least irritated.
"Ah." Veronica's lips narrowed into a line as she tried not to laugh. I guess people have to take care of themselves somehow, but this is the first I've seen anyone decide that the best way would be to turn into a fruit salad.
This girl would have been an 09er back in Neptune. It was evident at second glance, and the realization almost made Veronica wave goodbye and leave. "There was an ad on the bulletin board a couple months ago - I don't know if it's still up - someone was making all kinds of beauty products. Hair and skin and all that."
"Oh, that's awesome!" So, someone else did care about these things, which was a comforting thought. "Your hair is really nice, by the way," Regina said, flashing a smile. It was probably best to try to friend all of the other pretty blonds on the island.
"After all these months here? Hardly." Oh, she knew how to deal with these girls. Growing up in SoCal gave you proper lessons in Valley Girl. Cocking her head to the side, Veronica grinned. "I'm Veronica."
Regina frowned. Usually people were more responsive to her flattery. Oh, whatever, she wasn't going to go out of her way to convince someone else their hair was nice.
"Regina George," she smiled. "Where are you from?"
"Neptune, California. You?" Veronica tucked her hands into her pockets, watching Regina curiously. So far she didn't seem too bad - just kind of ditzy, self-absorbed, and mango-strewn. There were worse people in the world - and she would have to describe the scene to Wallace later. That would be good for a laugh. God, it was a relief to have him around again.
"Oh, I've met someone else from Neptune here," Regina said. "His name is Logan and he is so hot. Do you know him? I'm from Chicago, Illinois, which isn't nearly as cool as Cali."
"Oh, really?" asked Regina, suddenly getting very interested. She had had a feeling that Logan had a thing for attractive blonds, and it appeared that she was right. "Why did you guys split up?" she asked.
Even if Veronica had wanted to tell Regina, she couldn't have. It was, for one thing, a long story. "It just wasn't the right time for us," she said, and shrugged. "Well. That, and he's a self-absorbed jackass with a death wish. But I think he's seeing someone right now, though, so if that's your type..." More power to ya, sad little girl.
"Oh," Regina frowned. Seeing someone else? Well, that had never stopped her in the past, so why would it stop her now? And, to be completely honest, she didn't care if a guy was a jackass as long as he was hot. Shallow, but true. "That sucks," she said, trying to look sympathetic. "Well, I'm sure you'll find someone else in no time."
Judging by her expression, Veronica silently wished her luck. Whoever Logan's new boy was, she could only hope Regina would annoy Logan like the wind.
"I already have," she admitted with a grin. "But you can't have been here long if you haven't found anyone yet," she said dryly. Regina looked like the kind of girl who didn't go long without someone.
"Yeah," Regina said. "I've only been here for like three weeks, but it's harder to meet people than I thought," she frowned. "Most of them are gay," she sighed.
"Yikes. Did they fall on you?" she asked, mild sympathy on her face. The girl didn't look upset, though, and Veronica was pretty sure that, had mangoes fallen on her head, she would have been at least irritated.

"Um, no," she laughed. "They're supposed to replenish the nutrients in my hair," she said.

Veronica smirked faintly. "Yeah, I know Logan." At least, I thought I did. Obviously, I didn't know him well enough. "We used to go out, actually."
