A 5-Star Restaurant | Waitressing | {Mild Aphro}

Aug 25, 2011 01:09

It seemed that once more, Amelia's better judgement had taken a backseat to her urge to assist people. Just her luck really, that she happened to witness someone being harassed as she passed the restaurant, apparently unable to pay their bill and looking rather terrified of what the staff might do to even things out. Unable to keep herself out of ( Read more... )

The sad thing about the whole was Black Lady could have easily paid for the meal. She was good at getting her way, sweet talking people to give her things or when necessary, hypnotizing them. Ah, she hadn't done that in a while. The scene was set, tears trickling down her cheeks. The scared, helpless damsel in distress, she'd played the part well. And then someone interrupted the act, stepped in and offered to work off the debt. It wasn't what she expected, but she wasn't going to turn it down. She'd figured the girl would work the rest of the night and go home, no sense worrying over it ( ... )

For the moment, Amelia was unaware, too busy clearing away dishes resetting the table with fresh napkins and cultery, before quickly disappearing to drop off the dirty plates in the kitchen. Naturally, it wasn't too long until she was called out to see to another table. Her surprise as the familiar face came into view was evident, but she still smiled regardless.

"Well, fancy meeting you again." she greeted the woman, thinking nothing of Black Lady showing up so unexpectantly. Amelia simply took out her pad and pen from her apron pocket, her usual friendly demeanour in place. "And how can I help you today? Do you want to order?"

Black Lady stowed away her normal smirk and confident expression, replaced by something much more passive complete with a lack of immediate eye contact. Pretending to be shy was hard work, so it probably wouldn't last very long. All she needed was a good cover story and then she could move onto other things. The ideas came pouring in, but no, that wouldn't work, and not that one either. Maybe that one. Yes, that one would do.

Raising her head slowly she offered a smile and blinked quite intentionally a few times. "Oh, it's good to see you again! Did they make you keep working here? If I'd known... this won't do at all," she said, faux fretting over the fact she'd made the poor girl work off her debt. Suckers were born every second, but she felt something odd from this one. "I insist you join me. Can you do that..." Jeez, what was her name? Convenient, a name tag! "Amelia?"

Deception was not Amelia's forte by any stretch, so the kind and polite expression on her features was totally geniune. The same could be said for the slightly baffled look at what was said, before she quickly raised a hand to dismiss the misconceptions.

"Ah, no, nothing like that. I've stayed on to help out, and build up my funds again." she explained, hoping she wasn't causing the other female concern. The invitation caused even more confusion, though she supposed if Black Lady felt bad about what happened, it was to be expected. She wasn't looking for repayment, but actually getting to know the woman before her wasn't a bad idea. "And well, I do have work to finish. Why don't you order something to drink, I'll finish up and join you shortly, how does that sound?" she offered.

The money Black Lady had given the manager would probably show up as a tip on her paycheck if nothing else. A small price to pay to keep one less thing off her guilty conscious. There were plenty of bigger things there to occupy her mind whenever she was feeling genuinely sorry. Which was happening more often lately. That's why she had to distract herself from time to time, because it was easier than enduring the confusion of conflicting memories and wishes.

"I see, so you liked it and stayed," she replied, nodding in understanding. Now she could let the expression drop, slowly of course. Some company would be a nice distraction, because when left to her own devices things tended to go awry. Either she'd become mopey and lash out at someone, or stir up mischief for anyone who passed by. "In that case I'll take a milkshake. And some cookies." Now she was smiling, taking the chance to study the girl and her waitress attire.

"You could say that, yes." Amelia smiled, noting down the order, unaware of anything that might have been going through the other girl's head at that moment. Once that was done, she turned with a nod to the customer, moving away and no doubt giving Black Lady a fairly nice view of her figure in the uniform as she walked. "I'll be back shortly."

She quickly placed the order, taking the time in between to clock out for the day, letting her shift runner know she was done, receiving her paycheck at the same time. Of course she didn't look at it yet, instead taking the food and drinks and heading back to the table.

"Here we are." she smiled, placing the plate of cookies and glasses down before taking a seat herself. "You know, I never did catch your name the last time we met Miss..."

Costumes and uniforms didn't do much more than attract her attention, and Amelia was doing just that. Crimson eyes followed the girl until she slipped out of sight, and then she turned and crossed her arms over her chest. This wasn't going quite how she'd planned, but so many things rarely did. Stupid hotel, stupid things not going her way. She stuck out her tongue at no one in particular, and then winked at a nearby customer who happened to see it. That got him to blush and turn around in his seat ( ... )

That sudden shift to some upbeat enthusiasm at the sight of food was something Amelia was all too familiar with. Still, she was fairly confident that her companion could not be as much of glutton as Lina or Gourry. Still, it was nice to see her look really happy about something regardless, making the princess smile more. On hearing her name finally, she gave a polite, friendly nod.

"Nice to meet you properly at last then Miss Himeko." she greeted the other girl, straightening out her skirt before sipping her own drink, attention still on the person sitting across from her. "I'm glad to see you're fairing better than the last time we met."

The only way to get Black Lady into an eating frenzy like that would be to challenge her in some way, most likely with cake. Since there was no cake, there was nothing to worry about. And milkshakes couldn't be consumed too fast anyway. A natural defense mechanism against overeating them.

"Just Himeko," she corrected, polite but decisive. "I'm in a much better mood today. No one's annoyed me yet, and I thought you were still working here to pay off my bill. I guess I felt bad." She waved her hand dismissively, and took a cookie. "So what was all that talk before about a kingdom and getting money?"

"Ah, if you insist." she replied. No matter how many new people she met insisted she didn't need to address them so formally, she couldn't drop the habit. It was just her natural formality when speaking to someone who wasn't family, as if making sure to show respect. Even her friends still received formal addresses from her, even if she had known them for years.

"Well you didn't need to, I was happy to help." Amelia smiled, about to talk another sip of her drink, before her companion's words stopped her. After a moment of surprise, she laughed softly, a little nervous, having not realized Himeko overheard her. "Oh that. Well, I was just musing over how at home it was a lot easier to settle bills when this happens to me, but it's nothing to worry about."

She wouldn't correct her again, so if she kept it up, so be it. Black Lady wasn't used to formality or even people being polite to her. Sure it happened now and then but usually she was too busy trying to satisfy her needs or laying around being lazy, and when she told people to call her Black Lady, there was no need to put 'Miss" in front of it.

"Hmm." She wasn't convinced. Black Lady rested both elbows on the table and placed her chin upon her hands. She studied Amelia carefully, looking at her face, her eyes, her hair, and a little bit below the neck. "Tell me about your home, then. I'd like to know more about it."

Thankfully Amelia had learned that her formality was rarely needed in the hotel as it was at home, so when told to, she did drop the Mr or Miss she put on people's names. That was one thing that seemed to have stuck from her princess etiquette, without making her too obvious. That was something she wanted to be mindful of when she spoke to Black Lady; there was no shame from her position, but she didn't like lording it over people, so often didn't admit to her status unless it was needed.

"Well, it's a land with a strong foundation in different sorts of magic, and a lot of people practise it in some form. I grew up in a the White Magic capital, so I'm pretty well versed there, but I've learns a little black magic as well as some shamanic and astral spells." she explained, smiling still despite slight nervousness.
