UBC My Second Home?

Query: is there such a thing as too much good food being a bad thing?
Of course not, don't be silly. But we'll come back to my glutteny later. This story of non-related events starts yesterday, after church. I went to my dad's place to grab my brother, and the two of us went to Matt B's house for lunch. Matt, his wife Alley and Krista were all there, and we had waffles. It was a great time, though it was weird imagning that in another seven months, Sean would be sitting there every week as an official member of the Young Adults group. Scary.
We drove to Coquitlam to pick up something for his clarinet at Tom Lee music store, and then headed out to UBC for his rehersal. It was quite the trip getting there, and as is always a delight, got to show Sean the great aspects of life on Hastings. It's quite comical, you should try it some time. If you get a chance, take Sean down Hastings. Even make him get out of the car, if you can!
We eventually found the place we needed to be, half an hour late, but it took us another half an hour of wandering around the stupid campus before we found the music building. Well, to be precise, we had to ask for directions. Twice. The building numbers make no sense, alright?
I ditched him at that point, and made my way back into Vancouver, onto Granville street. I was looking for a certain place, but I forgot what that place was called, though I knew it was by a Starbucks. And they sold shoes. And how many shoe stores can there be on Granville near a Starbucks?
Alot. So I parked my car, and I started wandering. This was after driving up and down the length and bredth of the street and not seeing it, I figured I might have more luck on foot. Eventually I did find it, to my satisfaction, and started bothering Shelby who was working there. She asked if I could hang around until she was off, and we could grab some dinner, and I thought that was alright so I agreed. Who doesn't want to hang around the streets of Vancouver by themselves for two hours anyway?
I had noted on my travels that I was within a few blocks of Golden Age Collectables, so I peroused through there for a bit, looking for a good graphic novel to get, preferably by Frank Miller. Nothing jumped out at me, so I settled on a copy of Akira book 1, which generally is pretty expensive but I got for a very reasonable price. Reasonable means that I won't be crying by the time I get all 6 books, because I'll never be able to retire. I still had a while to wait, so I plopped down at Starbucks and read for a while, fending off the good-natured people on the street looking for change I didn't have and wouldn't have given regardless.
Finally after the sun went down and so did the temperature to almost ice-age preportions, Shelby was off work and we walked back to my car which was somehow unscathed, and we headed back to UBC where Sean was waiting patiently to leave. So I dropped him off at the grandparent's in Coquitlam, had some nice dinner at RR's and then went home. All-in-all a long, yet productive and rewarding day.
Today was nice, because work flew by much faster than normal. Not sure why, we wern't especially busy. I haven't had a chance yet to go shopping, so I have no lunch foods, and I grabbed a pile of sushi. Mmmm mmm, sushi. After work, we all piled into a couple cars, and sped off to the UBC Golf Course, where the company Eye Logic was hosting a dinner/seminar for us lucky people. The food there was amazing! It started off with waiters walking around with hours devours which were pretty amazing, and then a huge buffet spread of sandwiches and the most succulent roast beef you can imagine. The dessert... the dessert was to die for. Melt-in-your-mouth chocolate cake, cheery pie, strawberry cheese cake, etcetera etcertera... you can't imagine how good it was. And I had my fill. Mmmm and the quality of it all was unparalleled, top-notch chefs out there. Anyway, enough gloating, I just don't get to eat like that very often. Especially not for free.
Afterwards, we did have to endure a rather long and boring seminar about the rules and regulations for Optitions, which amounted to:
Optometrists and Opthamologists don't want us Optitions to be able to do sight testing because that takes clients away from them. They took the company to court to ban their eye testing machines, and after a lengthy battle, we won. Aaaand that about sums it up. Much abbreviated, of course. The other part of it was that there was a new course set up, and they were handing out certificates to the first batch of graduates, three of which work for us. It was kind of history in the making, which was cool.
But beyond that, not too much else exciting happened. But I just can't get over how good that food was... mmmm...
