Marsala

Marsala. What can I say? I loved Marsala. It was amazingly beautiful and after the hustle and bustle of all the other cities...a great place to relax. My cousins treated me in a manner befitting a King and I hope to be able to do the same for them when they visit me.

I called Valeria around 1030 and she walked over to get me. We went to her apartment (i must say it was sooooooo nice). From there we went for a walk around the city. I surprised myself because I was doing ok with the Italian language thing I think.

The city of Marsala is surrounded by walls and gates so we walked to one of them and then to this garden up on a bastion. Also, to note, Marsala is famous for the landing of Garibaldi with his 1000 troops that would eventually liberate and unite Italy in teh 1800s.

After some exploring inthe city we went with my cousins friends to walk a long the coast. It was beautiful and then we got gelato.

After that we went back to the house to eat. I was able to see her brother and then meet her parents...also my cousins. Lunch was soooooooo goooood. First pasta with clams and little shrimp...then meat and then desserts. I loved the food in Marsala.

After all this we shared pictures and recounted how we were related. Then another cousin came over and took me and Valeria to drive along the seaside.

It was wonderful and they took me to some salt areas where salt is reclaimed from the sea and then sold. It was cool to see this industry happening. After that we went to go see the summer house and hung out along the beach for a bit. There were mountains of algae since it wasnt summer yet...haha...and I called this things on the ground Kiwi di Mare...you'll just have to see the picture.

I wanted to go swimming but there wasnt enough time that day.

When we returned to the house the family had more cousins over since it was the birthday of the mom. It was cool meeting more people and then everyone gave me gifts! I felt bad because it wasn't my birthday!!! haha...but it was so nice of everyone to think of me. For dinner we had Arangini (rice balls) and such...delicious!

After all the eating and hanging out they took me to where I would be staying. Their family rents an apartment and since no one was renting at the time they let me stay there. It was a great perk...let me tell you!!

So then after a great day I went to bed.

Im trying to catch up on this journal thing so we'll see how it goes. I am in Sicily now and just extended my stay in palermo by 4 days...cutting down time in london but I think it will be worth it. When I write about Palermo you'll see why. The beaches, people, and food...!!!
