Description:Houston uber collector Lester Marks -- whose cutting edge contemporary collection and unerring eye have been recognized by Art & Antiques and ARTnews' prestigious Top Collector Lists -- throws open his art palace to host Spacetaker.org's First Annual Benefit. The Marks Collection boasts museum quality masterworks, many installed in specially constructed viewing rooms and chambers. Gaze at 20th century greats such as Joseph Cornell, Andy Warhol and Donald Judd. Contemplate today's top tier talents including Anselm Kiefer, Kiki Smith, Louise Bourgeois, Richard Long, the Clayton Brothers and Houston's own Art Guys, Trenton Doyle Hancock and Joe Havel. Bonus: See Lester's vinyl clad Play Pen, which features a blinking Tony Oursler video eyeball -- and your life may possibly change forever.

The event will take place September 3rd at the home of Mr. Lester Marks from 7:00 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. Entertainment for the evening is provided by Two Star Symphony, DJ Sun, and Modern Dance by Aileen Mapes. A one-of-a-kind silent auction will be on display throughout the night and open for bidding, featuring original artwork by David Brown, Anderson Wrangle, Ken Beasley, Angela Maxwell, Alison Hunter, The Art Guys, Nina Craig, Jason Makepeace, I Love You Baby, Shaon Engelstein, and Aaron Parazette. Tickets for the event are $50 and can be purchased online at http://www.spacetaker.org. Underwriting opportunities for the event are available from $1500 - $5000. Money generated at the September 3rd benefit will help fund the development of resources for Houston area artists and operating costs for Spacetaker. Event Sponsors include Whole Foods Market, Tito's Vodka, Effen Vodka, Copy.com, and Professional Chefs NYC.

Spacetaker has undertaken the immeasurable task of building and managing the most comprehensive cultural arts network in the city of Houston. In the past year, over 250 local artists have been featured at more that 400 events citywide. Nearly 300 Houston area arts organizations have featured over 2000 events using custom web based listings. With your support, Spacetaker will continue to develop vital tools for individual artist management, such as real time resume and online portfolio options. Funds generated fuel an effort to link area artists with the resource information and foundational support needed to foster a growing career. By celebrating local artists and their work, Spacetaker is building a bridge to connect art with its community.

Host Committee: Stuart Rosenberg, Tim Moloney, Barry Mandel, Jill Jewett, Catherine Anspon, Meg Poissant, Adam Walker, Bronwyn Wallace and Toby and Stephanie Lister.

If you haven't been to Lester's house before, this is a great opportunity to see one of the best private art collections in Houston. Lester is a voracious collector and every corner of his house has some absolutely amazing artwork, a lot of it museum quality. Every time I've been to his house, the collection has slightly changed. On top of collecting the best artwork in the world, Lester makes a point of collecting local artists and his collection reflects a lot of what's going on in contemporary art in Houston.

As I said before when I mistakenly promoted the event for the wrong day Spacetaker has become a great resource for knowing what's going on in the Houston cultural community, and I make a point to check out their calendar on a weekly basis. This is a good group of people and if I were in town this weekend, I'd definitely be at this fundraiser.
