Speaking of theaters, my favorite old theater in Houston was the one in the West University Village, though I never actually went inside. The sign still stands, on the corner of University and Morningside, but the theater was torn down a good 20 years ago, when Rice decided to put the Village Arcade shopping area in. I don't know anything about movie theaters or real estate, nor do I have any money. I went to visit a sort of shrine at lunch.

Bookstop on Alabama and Shepherd is closing on September 15. A brand spanking new Barnes and Noble was build in the River Oaks Shopping Center a mile or so up the road, and the old bookstore was rendered obsolete.

Discovery Green, our most awesome urban park in the middle of Downtown, hosted a two hour Thriller Dance lesson this evening, and over 500 people showed up. This is a video of them dancing. Note especially that it was well over 90 degrees when these people were ( Read more... )

I had absolutely no idea that the Dos Equis ads featuring the Most Interesting Man in the World were not nation-wide. I love them. I'm a bad Houstonian and totally forgot about Go Texan Day until I got to work this morning and found one of the secretaries clad in all denim. Go Texan Day is always the Friday before the Rodeo kicks off, and everyone in the town is supposed to dress "western."
