Chapter Three
“So...” Ueda raised an eyebrow. “What made you call us here?” The second oldest of the five cousins present inquired.
“Remember what I said about a new unit?” Jin started, getting all business-like.
“Huh? When was that?” Koki asked with his eyebrows in a knit. “You always talk about new units!” He whined.
Jin scowled. “You know, back in the year-end party?”
“Ah...” Junno clapped his hands, remembering the speech Jin gave during the year-end/family reunion party. “When you said a new unit, I thought you were referring to mixing and matching existing groups.” The tallest cleared his throat. “You know, like J-FRIENDS, or something?”
“Well, as you can see, that’s not the case.” Jin handed folders to the other men. “KAT-TUN, as named by Gramps Johnny.”
“Hey!” Koki and Maru pointed at the K person.
“What is Kazu-chan doing in this folder?” Maru asked. “Wait a minute... don’t tell me...” His eyes widened in suspicion and turned to Koki. “I knew something was off when Kazu lost five times in a row! Were you manipulating the results, Jin?!” The oldest reprimanded.
Jin shrugged nonchalantly. “It needed to be done. Anyway, I plan on recruiting him to Johnnys’ as part of KAT-TUN.”
“But why are you here?” Junno pointed at the A part. “Aren’t you supposed to be busy managing the entire company?”
“The company can run without me directly handling it.” Jin answered coolly. “I want the five of us to back Kamenashi to fame; that’s why we’re forming KAT-TUN.”
Ueda massaged his forehead, knowing that a migraine attack was slowly settling in. “I don’t understand. Why should I partake in this project of yours? No offense to Kamenashi, of course.”
Jin gave his cousins a glared. “Why? Because all the cousins from our generation debuted, except the five of us! Gramps Johnny wouldn’t allow that to happen, especially since he built this company for his children and grand children to debut.”
“He’s still on us because of that reason?” Junno laughed. “But I thought he understood that I wanted to become a professional billiard player.” He pouted.
“And I wanted nothing but to live a peaceful life away from the spotlight.” Maru inputted.
“Look, gramps is old and he’ll die soon.” Jin knocked on wood since he really didn’t want that to happen anytime soon. “So let’s just humor the old man and debut for his own peace of mind. Okay?”
“Alright, but how much would be my salary?” Ueda asked. “I ain’t stepping away from the stock market for a measly salary like we all know gramps gives everyone in the company.”
“Oi!” Jin shushed Ueda. “Don’t talk like that. You know he puts everything on a trust fund.”
“Yeah, yeah~” Ueda muttered. “So, how much will it be, Mister CEO, sir?” He teased Jin.
“Why don’t you take a look at the last page of the proposal?” Jin winked.
The other four simultaneously turned to the last page.
“Holy shit.” All of them cursed, seeing the figure listed there.
“So?” Jin laughed, seeing the dumb struck look on everyone’s faces. “Are you in?”
“Hell, yeah!” Everyone cheered, even the usually gloomy Ueda.
“Shit.” Koki suddenly said. “How are you going to approach Kazu about this?”
“We’ve set up another contest he can join. This time, it’s a contest to become part of the group.”
“Hmmm...” Maru thoughtfully hummed, remembering something that Kame said to him. “But Kame said he’s quitting.
“Yeah, he sort of hinted that to me too.” Koki moped. “This is your damn fault, Jin! Fix it!”
“I intend to.” Jin muttered obscenities under his breath, hearing Kame’s plan to quit pursuing music again. “Meeting adjourned. My secretary will contact you for further details.”
-----
Insistent banging on the front door was what woke Kazuya up from his slumber. He moaned and struggled to gather his wits.
“Oi! Will someone answer the door please?!” He irritably called out and cursed seeing the time; it was 10AM, of course none of his brothers would be around! They were either at their part time jobs, schools or the gym (in Kousaku’s case).
Kame grumbled as he wore his slippers. The damned knocking became louder at this point and when Kame peeked into the peephole, all he could see was a bunch of yellow petals obstructing his view.
“Damn it; don’t tell me this delivery boy got the address wrong!” Kazuya was ready to chew the delivery man, if such were the case. “Yes?” He asked, opening the door.
“Um...” The man stole a glimpse at the delivery receipt he was holding. “Is Mr. Kamenashi in?”
“Which Kamenashi is it?” Kazu’s eyebrows formed into a straight line. ‘Just who in the world would send flowers to my brothers?’
“Kamenashi Kazuya, sir.”
“Huh?” The oldest of the Kamenashi siblings reacted, dumbfounded. “Uh, that’s me...”
“Great! These are for you.” Kame was then handed the bouquet of yellow roses. “Here, can you please sign this?” The receipt was handed next.
Kame, still flabbergasted, took the receipt and signed it.
“Thanks sir! I’ll take my leave now.” The delivery guy bowed and left the premise.
“From whom could these flowers be from?” Kazu wondered aloud and then spied a small black dedication card that read...
From 仁
“Damn, so he’s sending me flowers this time around?” He snorted at the thought. “The old man doesn’t really know when to give up, huh?” He wanted to throw the roses away, but he felt sorry because they had done him no wrong.
Except of course that they were paid for by his dirty old landlord.
So instead of throwing them away, he took one of the vases dear old grandma used back when she was still alive, poured water on it and then placed the flowers in it.
“But why yellow?” He thought a little perplexed at the choice of color.
Shrugging off possible reasons as to why that was, he went back to his bed, planning to sleep the remainder of his rest day.
At least that was the plan until Kyouhei entered the apartment with the door banging after him.
Kame refused the urge to sigh. He can almost sense what happened to his younger brother; Kyouhei probably got fired again.
True to his guess, Kyouhei entered the room muttering curses under his breath about his damned boss.
“Damned old man!” The second-born gritted his teeth as he dropped his bag on his bed.
“Got fired again?” Kame stated the obvious. “What did they do to you this time?”
“HE. GRABBED. MY FUCKING. ASS. TELLING. ME. THAT. THEY. WERE. RIPE. AND. READY. TO. BE. PICKED!” Kyouhei enunciated fiercely.
Kazu chuckled. “That’s what you get from oozing so much pheromones brother-dearest.” He teased, poking an old wound in Kyouhei.
Kyouhei had always been plagued with admirers, men and women alike in various age groups, but since their grandmother was a fierce woman, nobody dared to touch Kyouhei. But when she died, all his admirers became VERY assertive and aggressive.
“Look who’s talking.” Kyouhei bit back.
“Excuse me?” Kazu looked utterly confused at Kyouhei’s statement.
“Nothing.” The younger of the two replied, dismissing the subject.
After a little while, Kyouhei shook his head. Their dear aniki is really naïve and unpretentious. He doesn’t even know he’s got the most sex appeal out of the ten brothers. But thanks to his sweet demeanor, most people choose to help him instead of taking advantage of his naivety.
’Then again, Kazu-niichan got a black belt in Judo. He’s really strong and can protect himself when the situation calls for it.’ With that thought in mind, he was relieved that his dear brother will not get taken advantage.
“You know, I can ask Koki to hire you! Maybe the job of a bouncer would suit you better since you love getting into brawls.”
Kyouhei raised an eyebrow. “Are you encouraging me to get into fights more often than I already have?”
“No, it’s just that I know you’ll be more comfortable at Antonio’s -- I mean, at least I get to monitor you there.”
“I’ll think about it.” Kyouhei glared. “Go to sleep. You just got home yourself, right?”
“Yep.” The older man settled back on his bed to sleep. “Night... er... ‘morning!” He muttered sleepily.
Kyouhei smiled at his brother before switching back to his brooding mood.
