Unsolicited advice

Oct 02, 2009 23:11

While I often try to refrain from offering unsolicited advice, let me suggest this:

Write your parent(s) a letter.  Don't type it out and email it, use a pen and paper and and a stamp.  Tell him/her/them whatever you need to, whatever you want to.  Tell them that you love them, that now that you are an adult you see your relationship in a much different (and hopefully better) way, that you now love all the times they told you "no" growing up, that you appreciate them.  They won't be around forever, nor will you.  Be honest and open, if they upset you that one time tell them then tell them how you now realize they were right or (still) wrong.  Just let them know that you are thinking about and love them.

Hell, if the mood strikes you, write more people, your aunts/uncles, siblings and/or friends.  An unexpected letter of such meaning is always welcomed.
